Sad news

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of retired police officer Sgt William McGee. He started his career in 1968. He was instrumental and starting communing policing with the department. He was also involved with pac tac, an early community policing initiative, which was called Police and citizens against crime. Sgt McGee had an incredible sense of humor and was sure to put a smile on anyone’s face.

Throughout his career he received numerous awards and commendations for excellence in police work.

He retired in 1997, but remained active in the city up until his passing.

Respectfully
Chief Paul D. Strong

Yesterday the Massachusetts Legislature passed a bill to protect firefighters and tradespeople from conditions that took the lives of Boston Fire Lieutenant Edward Walsh and Firefighter Michael Kennedy in 2014. The legislation creates a system to discourage unauthorized and untrained welding and other ‘hot work,’ which caused the Back Bay fire in 2014. Learn more at: https://ow.ly/hi1650ZeFqe
