LEYSF is a 501(c)(3) charitable educational organization dedicated to encourage children to experience the joy of sailing, teach essential boat handling skills, seamanship, water safety and race in a safe fun environment. We gratefully use the facilities at Lake Eustis Sailing Club in Eustis, Florida. The youth program offers a range of classes - Beginners, Intermediate / PreRace and Advanced / Race Team. Please go to www.leysf.org for more information on our programs. Beginners are taught how to sail over 8 - 2.5hr classes (often Saturday mornings or 1 day after school). Once they graduate Beginners, they can then join our ongoing program that meet every week for the rest of the season. Cost is $250 (sibling discount available)
Sailors who join our ongoing program are continuously evaluated on the water to ensure that they are learning the necessary skills to progress to the next level. Our courses incorporate standards from the US Sailing and our instruction are US Sailing certified. LEYSF primarily uses Optimists, OPen Skiffs, Lasers and 420's for instruction; the boat used depends on the students' abilities, physical size and desired outcome. Classes are held on Saturdays from 9 - 4:30pm, weekday afternoons and UCF practice with us on Sunday afternoons. We sail Sept thru June. Summer Camp is in June. Our race sailors travel all over Florida and sometimes out of State. LEYSF provides the boats, the lessons and great instructors - all you have to do is:
- Be aged 8-18
- Bring your Coast Guard approved life jacket (Type III PFD) with whistle and closed soft sole shoes
- Pass our swim test
- Bring swimsuit and towel every day
- Get Mom to sign the Liability Release form
- Pay an annual $75 membership fee and the course fee of approx $75mth. For more information, please visit our web page www.leysf.org.
