Auction Horses Rescue

Auction Horses Rescue 501c3 non-profit horse rescue—devoted to not only saving lives, but ensuring their longterm safety.

Auction Horses Rescue is a 501c3 organization, based out of Santa Clarita, CA. Founded in January 2012, after attending the first, of what became many, Southern California auctions. Confronted with such a great number of unwanted and discarded horses, a high percentage of which were Thoroughbred ex-racehorses, we started off with the aim of identifying and reuniting these animals with those who mi

ght have once cared for them. Since then, we have built a large audience of horse lovers who watch us daily on Facebook. Through networking, donations, and the expertise of our team, we have been able to continue rescuing, rehabilitation, re-training and re-homing since our founding. Forever homes are our goal, with a small number of sanctuary horses. We have a particular focus on “problem” training horses as well as elderly horses, retired Thoroughbred broodmares in particular. These horses are in particular danger of landing in Mexico or Canada on a slaughter truck. We work with other rescue organizations when possible and have also helped a number of horses from Central and Northern California Auctions, as well as neighboring states, venturing often alone. In addition, we have been involved in consultancy to better protect the horses of our state, and beyond. Auction Horses Rescue supports the continued existence of horse auctions, as without them, a valuable tool for finding and identifying horses would be lost. Without these auctions, many of these horses would go from backyard to feed lot to Mexico-bound slaughter truck, with little hope of rescuers having the chance to intervene and deliver them to safety. Please rescue a horse *before* it enters the slaughter pipeline — only then can you save a life without funding the bad guys, and slaughter itself!

🚨PRE RESCUE ALERT🚨

He only has until tomorrow, Thursday, 8/27 😔

We hope someone can give him the retirement he deserves 🙏

LOCATION: Southern California, at a feed lot (all feed lots are private in the state of CA). Location to be discussed with approved homes.
BAIL: $500
DEADLINE: Thursday, 8/27

PLEASE NOTE: We are volunteering our time to help this horse find a good home or rescue, we do not own him. READ THIS FULL POST before inquiring.

Interested? Need further information about them? ✨Please DM us✨ or e-mail ✨[email protected]

**DO NOT post public “I’ll take them” offers and placement questions—DM/email ONLY so realistic placements aren’t derailed.**

We are volunteering our time and energy to get them safe. Please be respectful of this.

Our small non-profit is currently unable to rescue him. We so wish we could, though. Our elder PRE gelding is the sweetest boy.

The pregnant donkeys are safe! 🩷🩷🩷

And by safe, we mean at the best possible place they could be: Oscar’s Place Adoption Center & Sanctuary!

All six expectant mothers were whisked to Oscar’s Place in an overnight haul provided by the sanctuary, allowing them to travel without enduring the sweltering daytime heat.

Now baby watch begins! We’re hoping for six healthy, happy babies—which will turn six rescued donkeys into twelve. 🩷

We cannot thank our donors and supporters enough for helping make this miracle possible.

So many donkeys and burros are not this lucky. These girls were part of a larger group that had already shipped out, leaving only the pregnant mothers behind for one last chance. Thanks to all of you, and Oscar’s Place, they received it.

If you’re interested in helping rescue donkeys in the future, especially pregnant jennies, please reach out to us. Excellent homes and reputable rescues are always needed, and references are required. 😊

🚨URGENT RESCUE: 6 PREGNANT DONKEYS!‼️🚨

SIX very pregnant-looking donkeys are at a California feed lot, with a short deadline of only Monday, 8/17.

We have been told they are standard-sized donkeys, with some expected to foal as early as this weekend. Small baby donkeys do not survive on a crowded feed lot or trailer loads. If they do happen to survive, the babies will be sold as young orphans and their moms either to be roped first and then to slaughter, or direct to slaughter. None of these outcomes are humane.

It is unknown if they have been handled, but the Jennies seem interested in and curious about humans.

The feed lot is only interested in having all 6 jennies bailed together, only. We have requested several times for individual rescue, but we have been told a flat no.

LOCATION: Southern California, at a feed lot (all feed lots are private in the state of CA). Location and Bail to be discussed with approved homes.
DEADLINE: Monday, 8/17

PLEASE NOTE: We are volunteering our time to help these donkeys, we do not own them. READ THIS FULL POST before inquiring.

We are volunteering our time and energy to get them safe. Please be respectful of this.

Our small non-profit is currently unable to rescue them. Rather than leave these sweet souls to silently disappear, we have been working hard to network those we cannot directly save ourselves to other good rescues and private homes.

***ALSO: There are 2 BLM mares, both said to be pregnant, and are rumored to have their BLM paperwork showing up shortly. We are also told they are halter broke. They also need urgent rescue, but we do not have their deadlines yet.***

‼️UPDATE 8/11‼️
This has been a difficult fundraiser and we still have a ways to go. We’re praying for miracles here!!

Thankfully Delilah hasn’t foaled yet, which is essentially a death sentence for any baby born on a feed lot. Especially one so tiny. 😔

We found out the tattooed over mare sold at the auction and instead Kyankes was at the feed lot—so we are trying to rescue her, too!!

Please help us save these lost, fragile souls. 🙏

🚨 VERY PREGNANT MINI COULD FOAL AT ANY TIME—AND 3 OTTBs ALSO NEED IMMEDIATE HELP 🚨

Delilah is VERY pregnant and predicted to foal at ANY time. Days? Hours? Her baby could arrive before we know it—and she is not yet safe.

At the same time, three Thoroughbreds have fallen from the auction circuit to a feed lot and urgently need rescue.

We have TWO emergency fundraisers happening at once. Three horses, one mini pony, and a fifth, unborn life—are depending on us.

🆘 DELILAH & HER UNBORN FOAL — $2,200 NEEDED

Delilah needs to reach safety before her tiny baby is born, with experienced mini-foaling fosters and veterinary support ready at her side.

We MUST immediately raise $2,200 for her rescue.

🐎 THREE THOROUGHBREDS — $1,800 NEEDED

At least one of these Thoroughbreds was abandoned by her own racing connections, and we may learn that others were as well.

They are Sharp Turn (Empire Way);
A Thoroughbred mare whose tattoo has been TATTOOED OVER to hide her identity, and who loves children;
and an unnamed 4-year-old son of Smiling Tiger/out of Wit’s End—with infected, painful teeth.

We MUST immediately raise $1,800 to rescue all three OTTBs.

🚨 FULL TOTAL NEEDED: $4,000 🚨

All four equines need immediate medical care—especially Delilah, who may have only days or even hours before her baby arrives.

Please help us get all four —and Delilah’s expected little foal—safely out of danger.

When donating, please note “MINI,” “OTTBs,” or “BOTH.”

📝 Venmo and Zelle charge no fees.

Delilah will be fostered by our trusted mini experts, who are experienced with mini foaling. The Thoroughbreds will go to our friends at Moorheart Farm.

Auction Horses Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit horse, donkey, and mule rescue. Donations are tax-deductible. We have operated since 2012 and have remained 100% unpaid volunteers since day one.

Please DONATE and SHARE. Delilah and her unborn baby cannot afford to wait—and neither can these three Thoroughbreds. 🙏

UPDATE 8/11: NOT RESCUED 😩

If the mares survive the next few months of being roped/tripped, they usually return to the feed lot and are then shipped to slaughter. We do not know who the babies sold to, but the odds are stacked against them.

We currently are still rehabilitating the last group of Reservation Mustang mares and babies, who will be available for adoption once they are at a healthy weight and halter broke. Maybe we can then save another lucky group, as this is otherwise almost always their fate..

Please considering donating or adopting a horse through Auction Horses Rescue! We can’t continue our work without our followers support, along with our all-volunteer team behind the scenes. No rescue can legitimately save all the horses in need, but so long as it’s ethically done so they are safe for the rest of their lives, we sure can try.
______________

🙏🚨URGENT MUSTANG RESCUE: Mares & Babies!!!🚨🙏

Reservation Mustangs can almost never catch a break. Without the sought-after BLM brand, and no government protections, tribal leaders sell many of their horses regularly en masse to slaughter, as well as illegal rodeos where the adults are used for “horse tripping”/roping, and the babies left defenseless to starve to death on their own.

These 3 pairs of mom’s and babies have a rare, brief chance at rescue, but only by rescues or people who are experienced with wild or feral horses, or have a trainer who will work with them. We are told they are curious and interested in people, but are unhandled. They have remarkably good conformation, much like the group of Reservation Mustangs we rescued in May (still being worked with prior to adoption).

The private SoCal feed lot that owns these 3 pairs, states two of the babies are fillies and one is a c**t. We do not currently know which ones are which but they will be separated by s*x.

Of course our greatest hope is all 3 pairs are rescued together! But if only some are rescued, it’s better than nothing.. 😔

DEADLINE: As soon as Aug 9 (8/9), Sunday morning!!

BAIL: $1000 per mare/baby pair *if* all 3 pairs sell together. If pairs are not purchased altogether, they become $1100 mare/baby pair.

We’re not happy about this and have negotiated the bails down as low as the feed lot owners were willing to go. It’s hard to compete with Mexican mafia money..

LOCATION: Southern California. (Specifics are for the approved homes only)

INQUIRIES: DM or e-mail [email protected]

If interested in rescuing or adopting through us and have not before, please fill out our screening application ASAP: https://tinyurl.com/AHRapplication (required)

**IMPORTANT** NO HOME OFFERS ARE TO BE LEFT IN COMMENTS. It can dissuade more realistic homes, which has caused the needless death of horses.

Everything we have been told about the horses is *already* in this post. We are all-volunteer with jobs and serious health issues, please respect our time and energy.

These are currently all the photos we have received from the feed lot that currently owns the Reservation Mustangs. We have repeatedly asked for more photos as well as video, but this is still all we have.

Auction Horses Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit horse, donkey, and mule rescue. We rescue, rehabilitate, and either rehome or keep in sanctuary care based on need. For the horses we can’t rescue, we network them to other good rescues and homes.

If you wish to support our work, please consider making a tax-deductible donation.

‼️🚨URGENT OTTB RESCUE🚨‼️

We need to RAISE 3 Thoroughbreds “BAIL” (highest bid at the auction)—no easy feat, ESPECIALLY at the last minute.

$3,000 needs to be raised ASAP—or we might not be able to make this happen.

It’s been a heartbreaking auction day, with 6-7 Thoroughbreds dumped despite their advanced age as a broodmare, or a young gelding with a likely raging tooth infection (1st photo). Horses who hold little value or interest to most private homes and even rescues, doomed to suffer…without a Hail Mary.

But with some pleading, and help from RACE Fund, Inc., our rescue partners at Moorheart Farm made space for 3 of these Thoroughbreds to come home to their rescue—funding permitting!!

Bail is only the first part of rescue, then there’s transportation and often extensive vet work, as well as corrective farriery, a lot of food, time to decompress and trust again, followed by training, just to become adoptable. Some horses become lifelong sanctuary residents. Please help us make sure these lives get the care they need, not just bailed.

Hip 2509 - Kyankes is a 2012 Kentucky-bred Thoroughbred mare, who raced many times at Santa Anita, Del Mar, and Los Alamitos, with a record of 2-2-3 out of 17 starts.

She was retired to become a broodmare at BG Stables, with her first foal sired by Capital Account. We ID’d and rescued Capital Account from this same auction, in May 2026. Her next two foal were also through BG Stables/Royalty Stable. It’s not just every month, but most weeks we’re contacted about BG horses in dire circumstances.

Our volunteer states Kyankes is quiet and friendly with the many young children at the auction. Another sweetheart who needs a chance.

Please give this kind OTTB mare a chance at a safe and happy rest of her life. 🙏

Sells to the highest bidder TONIGHT Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Mike's Auction, located at 10415 Limonite Ave in Mira Loma, CA. Horses start selling as early as 8pm, and as late as 11pm.

▪️ We do not have any further information about the horses/animals we post at the auction. Everything we state is an educated guess at best, unless otherwise noted.

⚠️ If you want to bid, you MUST attend in person! We strongly encourage seeing the horse before bidding. We try to avoid stepping into that role, as bringing a new horse home—especially one you’ve never met before, and had very little known about it—is a major commitment.

🔹 If you are already an approved AHR adopter or rescue partner, DM or email [email protected] ASAP. Unfortunately, it’s next to impossible for our rescue to screen applications same day.
🔹 Want to apply to become an approved adopter or 501c3 rescue for future horses in need? We only approve new applicants on a limited basis. Apply here: https://tinyurl.com/AHRapplication

The application is also valid for adopting one of our rehabilitated, vet checked, and evaluated horses, previously rescued by Auction Horses Rescue!

🚨 Important Reminder:
▪️ We are not brokers and have no affiliation with the auction. We attend to rescue horses when we can, and also network horses to safe homes and ethical rescues. Additionally, we post to preserve a record of the horses that end up at auctions and feed lots in order to aid lost and stolen horse cases, often alerting prior owners to the fact the horse they leased out or retired at a sanctuary, rehomed from the racetrack, donated to a recipient farm, etc., is not safe like they’ve been told…or assumed.
▪️ Horses at the auction are sold “as-is.” No guarantees. Please be realistic about your expectations, financials, and skill level.
▪️ Our 501(c)(3) rescue—Auction Horses Rescue—is 100% volunteer-run, since 2012.

Hip 2503 - This is another Thoroughbred mare we absolutely adore.

She raced, like the previous mare, only it appears someone tattooed OVER her original tattoo to hide who she is!!!

Our volunteer states she is absolutely in your pocket sweet, lovingly interacts with small children at the auction, and shows no signs of head shyness. There’s a good chance up until very recently, she lived a good place.

Please give this kind OTTB mare a chance at a safe and happy rest of her life. 🙏
