Over the last several weeks rains have brought soil into the watershed. Sediment in the water negatively impact the aquatic ecosystem and are not natural. They are however, part of a complicated system of human impact on our environment. This is has become a normal visual during big rain events in our region. Hopefully our streams can one day run clear after a rain.

After the Block Party, cap off your NC Trail Days Friday (THIS FRIDAY!) with a FREE film screening of the critically acclaimed 'American River' at the Reeves Theater & Cafe starting @ 8:00 PM. This one is especially for the river rats, but don't miss your chance at a free showing in the Reeves and perhaps some inspiration for our very own Yadkin River.

Upper Big Elkin Watershed. Pasture land protects soil movement during storms like we had last night. Cattle need about 1-2 acres of land per cow so that overgrazing doesn’t happen. Rotational Grazing also helps protect land.
