When and where are the best PRIDE celebrations?

Pride Month is just around the corner and you know what that means ...
the homophobes and transphobes will be triggered.

But here's the interesting thing about that — the people who complain about Pride are the very reason Pride still exists.

If LGBTQ+ people were fully accepted, protected, and treated with dignity, there would be far less need for a month dedicated to visibility, community, inclusivity and advocacy.

But every year, right on schedule, people show up to complain about rainbow flags, same-sex couples, transgender people, pronouns, drag queens, and the mere existence of LGBTQ+ people.

So every year when someone asks, “Why do we still need Pride?”

The answer usually shows up in the comments.

Every year, someone asks why Pride is still necessary.

The answer is simple:

Pride is important because not everyone is safe being themselves.

Pride is important because some LGBTQ+ people still face rejection, isolation, discrimination, and fear because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Pride is important because a young person may be searching for hope, a parent may be learning how to support their child, and someone may be hearing words of acceptance for the very first time.

Until every LGBTQ+ person can live as their true self without hesitation or fear …

Pride is a rainbow — a reminder that joy can grow from pain.

Pride is a hand reaching out — letting you know you aren’t alone.

Pride is courage, bright and true — the freedom to be wholly you.

Pride is laughter, hugs, and song — a place where hearts can all belong.

Pride is hope that lights the way to a kinder, gentler world someday.

Pride is a message of love
everyone deserves to hear.

So wave your colors, bold and bright, and shine your beautiful, authentic light.

Together, we can create a world where everyone can live as their true self.

Vivian Wilson has spoken out about the importance of lifting up q***r voices while the US is under the Trump administration and experiencing attacks on LGBTQ+ rights.

She shared her thoughts in an interview with Out on 29 May. “As q***r people, we're always screaming into this void that we're not these demons you think we are,” she said.

“It's exhausting, but it's incredibly important to lift up the q***r community. We can't stop screaming. Q***r progress has gotten better and now it's getting worse. Especially in these political times, it's important to showcase q***r joy.”
