We. Released 5 Barn Owls yesterday spread out over a large open area near the Rio Grande. Where there is water there is food.

A starved, skinny Swainsons Hawk with cold feet. He is most likely a first year and may not make this migration. We will see how fast he comes up out of starvation and if we can get his muscle back and get him hunting. That’s a tall order in a short time.

The Barn Owl toe dusting dance. They start hunting live mice on Monday. The final step before being released.

There is a little guy stuffed in the left corner. They like to be crammed together in small, high spaces . Soon we will have them hunting mice.

This is the sibling of the owl that came in yesterday. He was mauled by a dog. Eye is still good and he is on eyedrops and medications. Needs surgery for a broken humerus. Poor little guy. He had his first vet visit before even coming to the center. Thank you Dr. Ramsay.

Look who showed up. A juvenile Western Screech Owl. He was grabbed by a dog so he is missing some wing feathers but no blood or broken bones. Needs some hydrating.

All of our 4 Golden Eagles have been released!!!

They have turned up the volume. All those mice you see in front of them will be eaten quickly. They are now eating on their own. They no longer make this sound as adults. Enjoy while you can.
