Lots going on around here today, as usual lately! 😂 But I wanted to take a moment, while Trudy is actually sitting still long enough, to gift you all with a beautiful little video of this girl!

Everyone meet Trudy! ❤️

She’s the young runaway who caused us quite the drama down in Mexico! There were worried people, frantic updates, and a whole lot of searching. But guess what? SHE’S HERE!

Trudy has been with us since Thursday, and I have to tell you, I think she’s absolutely delightful! She’s definitely a young girl, and although she does have tick disease, she’s otherwise received a pretty clean bill of health.

We’ll have LOTS and LOTS of updates coming later this evening, but for now, just enjoy this sweet girl. After all that drama, she deserves her moment in the spotlight! ❤️🐾

ANOTHER PUG EMERGENCY

I swear, every time I think we can take a breath, another little soul is fighting for their life. My heart is breaking, and tonight it’s breaking for a tiny 10-week-old boy named Vader.

Little Vader’s foster mom reached out to me tonight and sent these heartbreaking photos. I honestly don’t even know what to say. I’ve never seen an eye injury this horrific.

Tomorrow morning, this precious little boy will undergo emergency surgery to have his eye removed (enucleation). Even his iris is blown. I know that’s not the technical medical term, but it’s the only way I know how to describe what I’m seeing.

He’s only 10 weeks old. He should be playing, getting belly rubs, and discovering how wonderful life can be, not facing major surgery and anesthesia.

Please send every prayer, good thought, and ounce of positive energy you have for this sweet baby.

Come on, Vader. You’ve got a whole village pulling for you. ❤️

Friday night through yesterday was amazingly busy! Soooooo many rescues and rescue partners participated in saving the seven lives that went up to Tracy and Mike at the Pug Ranch yesterday! Unfortunately, I can’t tag some of you, but I still want to acknowledge your unceasing and admirable dedication to helping! Shannon, Ana and Pilar your efforts and flexibility in accommodating the changing schedules of so many of us made this feat possible!

Another precious life safe and sound in our rescue network. She needs donations for her ongoing medical care right now—every little bit helps us say 'don't worry, I am coming to get you.'

If it feels like we’ve been going from one emergency to another these past couple of weeks, it’s because WE HAVE! 😂

Yesterday, seven dogs left Gertie’s and headed north to our wonderful friends at The Pug Ranch New Mexico. Many are severely starved babies, much like Hansel and Gretel. It was a big day, and I was really hoping today might be a little quieter.

Apparently, the universe had other plans.

This morning, several people sent me a video of a sweet little Pug found dragging herself in the streets of Juárez by a Good Samaritan. And, well, you know how good I am at saying no. (Spoiler alert: I’m not.)

Our wonderful friend Pilar, who runs a boarding facility and also provides Pet Uber services in Juárez, stepped in to get this little girl somewhere safe. Unfortunately, we couldn’t locate a veterinarian on a Sunday with x-ray machine, capabilities, so she’s spending tonight warm, safe, fed, and comfortable. Tomorrow morning, Pilar will transport her to a neurologist I’ve worked with before.

We don’t know exactly what we’re dealing with yet, but we’re going to get her the medical attention she needs.

Here’s where we could use a little help.

We don’t have a rescue sponsor lined up for this little girl yet, so her medical care, transportation, and boarding expenses are currently coming out of my pocket.

If you’re able to contribute, even a few dollars would help tremendously. And please share her story. Every little bit helps us keep saying YES when another life needs us.

My brain may be completely full, and I’m pretty sure some of it is leaking out of my ears, but I couldn’t turn my back on her.

That’s just not how Gertie’s Village works. ❤️

Needless to say, it has been a busy, busy few days! But seven of Gertie’s guests are now safely tucked away up in Albuquerque! Tracy Weeks and Mike are two of the most exceptional people I’ve ever had the good looking blessings to know! Completely selfless when it comes to saving the pugs and occasional honorary Pug :-) I don’t have words to thank you for all that you do for the Border dogs that I rescue. Thank you for taking them in and loving them, nursing them to health and then providing the most amazing forever homes for each and every one of them.

Just a quick reminder to everyone that my Amazon wish list is always pinned at the top of my page along with my donation links. We only have four cans of pumpkin left FYI 🙂 hint, hint! And my crate liners and dog beds get gifted out, sent with Foster‘s and generally just get beat all the heck pretty quick from the dogs and washing and drying. Desperately low on those items as well especially the crate liners for both the small and the medium kennels!

Medical care and transport costs add up fast, but together we can say 'Don’t worry, I am coming to get you.'
