Congratulations to Firefighter/Paramedic Derek Huber on his retirement! Firefighter Huber has served the EFD for 25 years, and worked his final shift yesterday. Local 1700 wishes him a long and healthy retirement!

Come work with us! For anyone who's ever thought about becoming a firefighter, we've scheduled the written test that's required of potential candidates for Saturday, June 21, 2025. Advance registration is required by 5 p.m. Thursday, June 5. Why is this a big deal? Because of state rules for fire department recruiting, this test is only offered about once every year or two.
🔥 Our department is staffed by firefighter/paramedics who earn between $84,712 and $94,653 (after probationary period).
🔥 We offer paid vacation, holidays, sick time and personal time.
🔥 Education stipends, longevity pay and tuition assistance are available.
🔥 Employee medical, dental and vision are 100% paid; positions include the Downstate Article 4 Firefighter pension.
🔥 HIRING BONUS: $5,000 for paramedic, $5,000 for IFSI Fire Academy.
Requirements: high school diploma, age 21 or older at time of hire, ability to pass the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), U.S. citizenship.
