A little reintroduction for all of our new followers. ❤️
My husband and I started Golden Years Animal Sanctuary on August 25, 2024, but our journey of taking in animals began way back in 2011, when we moved into a house that came with a horse! 🐴

Years later, the inspiration for Golden Years came from my work as a nurse practitioner in home care. I had a patient who was going into a nursing home, and her beloved cat needed a home. Without hesitation, I took him. He was the BEST cat ever. ❤️

Then another patient was transitioning to hospice and had two cats who needed a home. Sight unseen, I took them too—and I love them to this day. 🐾

In both situations, being able to provide a safe and loving home for their animals gave the patients and their families such an incredible sense of peace. That experience became the heart of our mission.

Our mission is to provide a loving home for animals whose owners have gone into a nursing home, transitioned to hospice, or passed away. We also take great pride in helping our community by getting senior animals off the streets and giving them the safe, peaceful and loving life they deserve.

This work is not easy. We both work full time while maintaining the sanctuary, but there is something incredibly special about what we do. Every animal has a story, and every one deserves to feel safe, loved and cared for.

We want to take a moment to say THANK YOU to everyone who has helped us, donated to our cause, shared our story, fostered, adopted, encouraged us, or simply supported us over these last two years. We truly could not do this without you. ❤️

We are honored to give these precious animals the BEST rest of their days ❤️🐾

Thank you for being part of the Golden Years family.
🐴🐱🐶❤️

Love,
Lindsay & Christopher

Today, Christopher and I came to the sanctuary to care for the animals and were greeted by a giant tree branch that had brought down a power line (pictures in comments). Thankfully, AEP responded quickly and safely took care of the line. We are so grateful no one was hurt and that there was no damage to the house or, most importantly, the animals.

Unfortunately, the tree itself will need to come down. We've reached out to our neighbor, who is an arborist, and he's going to provide us with a quote.
I'll be honest—this has been a difficult year. Since the beginning of the year, we've faced one unexpected expense after another: a new hot water tank, frozen and broken pipes, the main electrical breaker, roof repairs, and now this. It feels like every time we catch our breath, another challenge comes along.

When I started this nonprofit two years ago, I truly believed we were in a good place. The roof was newer, the appliances had been replaced, the well pump was new, and I thought we had prepared well. But life has a way of reminding us that unexpected things happen.

Even through the challenges, I know this work matters. Caring for senior and special animals is a privilege, and they deserve to live out their lives surrounded by love and safety. The financial burden, however, has become overwhelming.
If you feel led to support our mission, any donation—no matter the amount—would mean so much and help us continue caring for these precious animals. If you're unable to give, we would be incredibly grateful for your prayers, as well as for sharing this post with others.

Thank you for standing with us through every challenge. We truly couldn't do this without your kindness and support.
God bless,
Lindsay & Christopher ❤️
