Governor McMaster has proclaimed September as Su***de Prevention Month. In our state, we lose an average of one person every 11 hours to su***de, and 63 people a day seek emergency care for suicidal ideation or attempts.

Su***de is preventable.

Weโ€™re inviting youth ages 5+ to share their perspectives on substance use prevention, mental well-being, resilience, and living authentically through art. Domestic violence survivors will also be sharing their unfiltered stories through artwork.

You never know what someone else may be carrying. ๐Ÿ’›

Sometimes the people who seem okay are struggling too. Sometimes all it takes is one person noticing, one conversation, or one simple reminder that someone cares.

This Su***de Prevention Month, letโ€™s make sure the people around us know: you are not alone.

๐Ÿ’› Check in.
๐Ÿ’› Listen without judgment.
๐Ÿ’› Ask how someone is really doing.
๐Ÿ’› Remind them they matter.

Letโ€™s look out for each other โ€” because none of us should have to face hard things alone.

This November, The Hiding Place + the Pickens Police Department are honored to welcome the Gabby Petito Foundation to Pickens for a powerful and impactful training created specifically for those who are often the first to respond to domestic violence cases.

Law enforcement. Fire. EMS. First responders. Service Providers.

This FREE training is designed and presented by Jim Schmidt, one of the founders of The Gabby Petito Foundation and Gabbyโ€™s stepfather. The training equips first responders with essential knowledge and skills to effectively respond to domestic violence incidents.

The moments you step into matter. What happens in those first few minutes can change the entire trajectory of a survivor's story. This is an opportunity to learn directly from the Gabby Petito Foundation, strengthen our community's response to domestic violence, and better equip and support the people standing on the front lines.
