April is Civitan Awareness Month, and we’re shining a light on the incredible work happening at the Civitan International Research Center.

Did you know that Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) impact 1 in 6 people worldwide? Through groundbreaking research and treatment, Civitan is changing lives and creating a more inclusive future. Proud to be part of an organization where ordinary people provide extraordinary service.

Ordinary People. EXTRAordinary Service.

At Civitan, we believe that simple acts can lead to life-changing outcomes. This Civitan Awareness Month, we’re highlighting the incredible work our local clubs do—like building wheelchair ramps for community members in need.

It’s about more than just construction; it’s about providing independence, accessibility, and a reminder that your neighbors are here for you.

Happy Founder’s Day, Civitan! Civitan International has been making a positive impact for over a century.

Founded on March 17, 1917, we are grateful for the Civitans around the world who are committed to making their communities a better place with an emphasis on serving those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD)! And, Happy St. Patrick’s Day, too!

MORE ON CLERGY APPRECIATION WEEK - On February 3, 1943, four military chaplains—a Methodist minister, a Catholic priest, a Reformed minister, and a Jewish rabbi—sacrificed their lives in service to others on board the USS Dorchester. The troop transport ship, in route to Greenland, was hit by a torpedo.

The four chaplains, George L. Fox, Alexander D. Goode, John P. Washington, and Clark V. Poling removed their life jackets to give to other passengers and locked arms in prayer for the safety of others as the ship submerged into the icy waters. We set aside this week (Feb. 3rd through 10th) to honor clergy even today for their sacrifice and dedication to others. It’s Clergy Appreciation Week! Since 1963, Civitan clubs worldwide have set aside a week in February of each year to honor local faith leaders for their acts of service. The project was inspired by the story of the Four Chaplains.
