🙌 NIIICE — Past. present Mayors join forces to discuss Eagle Pass’ future

City projects and long-term priorities take center stage during leadership luncheon hosted by Mayor Aaron Valdez

EAGLE PASS, Texas — Decades of municipal experience came together as Mayor Aaron Valdez hosted former Eagle Pass mayors, current city administrators and Maverick County Judge Pablo García Jr. for a discussion about the city’s present needs and future development.

The Mayors Luncheon, held at the Riskind Building, brought together former mayors Rolando Salinas, Rogelio Flores, Luis Sifuentes, Jesús Sánchez, Rodolfo Barrera, Ramsey English Cantú, Pepe Aranda and Enrique Montalvo.

During the gathering, City Engineer Mr. Soto presented information on current and upcoming municipal projects. The presentation opened a broader discussion about infrastructure, community priorities and the city’s long-term direction.

Valdez said the luncheon allowed current officials to benefit from the former mayors’ collective experience and receive their feedback on matters affecting Eagle Pass.

“Thank you to our former mayors for sharing your time, experience and feedback,” Valdez said. “I deeply appreciate your continued commitment to our community.”

The participation of García and city administrators also reflected an effort to encourage cooperation between local government entities as Eagle Pass and Maverick County continue experiencing growth.

“Together, we can keep building a stronger Eagle Pass,” Valdez said.

Los proyectos municipales y las prioridades a largo plazo fueron el tema central de un encuentro encabezado por el alcalde Aaron Valdez

EAGLE PASS, Texas — Décadas de experiencia municipal se reunieron cuando el alcalde Aaron Valdez recibió a exalcaldes de Eagle Pass, administradores municipales y al juez del Condado de Maverick, Pablo García Jr., para dialogar sobre las necesidades actuales y el desarrollo futuro de la ciudad.

El Almuerzo de Alcaldes, celebrado en el edificio Riskind, reunió a los exalcaldes Rolando Salinas, Rogelio Flores, Luis Sifuentes, Jesús Sánchez, Rodolfo Barrera, Ramsey English Cantú, Pepe Aranda y Enrique Montalvo.

Durante el encuentro, el ingeniero municipal, señor Soto, presentó información sobre proyectos actuales y próximos de la ciudad. La exposición dio paso a una conversación más amplia sobre infraestructura, prioridades comunitarias y la dirección de Eagle Pass a largo plazo.

Valdez señaló que la reunión permitió a los funcionarios actuales aprovechar la experiencia colectiva de los exalcaldes y conocer sus opiniones sobre asuntos que afectan a la comunidad.

“Gracias a nuestros exalcaldes por compartir su tiempo, experiencia y opiniones”, expresó Valdez. “Aprecio profundamente su compromiso permanente con nuestra comunidad”.

La participación de García y de los administradores municipales también reflejó el interés por fortalecer la colaboración entre las distintas entidades gubernamentales mientras Eagle Pass y el Condado de Maverick continúan creciendo.

“Juntos podemos seguir construyendo un Eagle Pass más fuerte”, afirmó Valdez.

In what may be the most Texas thing ever, a tiny rural Texas school district has officially opened its brand-new $900 million high school football stadium, despite having just 83 students enrolled and a town population of 1,247.

The massive stadium seats 175,000 fans, features luxury suites, a retractable roof, enormous video boards, and enough parking to accommodate nearly every vehicle in the surrounding three counties.

When questioned about the size and cost of the facility, district officials defended the investment.

“We’re planning for the future,” a district spokesperson explained. “Sure, we only have 83 students right now, but you never know. We could have 90 next year.”

The district says the stadium was designed with future expansion in mind, including additional seating, a second press box, and the possibility of hosting the Super Bowl if the NFL ever lowers its standards.

Friday night’s inaugural game drew an enthusiastic crowd of 46 spectators, including 12 parents, eight grandparents, three teachers, and one man who reportedly just stopped to ask for directions.

Despite the low turnout, district officials called opening night a tremendous success, noting that every attendee had approximately 3,800 seats to choose from.

The Prairie View Possums lost their home opener 42–0, but coaches remain optimistic about the season.

Meanwhile, the district’s elementary and high school students will continue sharing one building, and teachers have been asked to limit photocopying to conserve paper.

Officials say the stadium is already exceeding expectations and have announced plans for a $75 million expansion.

“We just want to make sure we don’t run out of room.”
