Because as a child, I responded to storytelling. When a gifted artist visited our school and told a story, whether that be with poetry, song, or otherwise…I lit up. I specifically attached onto themes of character development through that medium. So that’s why I do it now.
My main focus is to make these kids WANT TO become wonderful humans. So I prioritize character and choices. I prioritize controlling the controllable.
It also serves as a reboot during these 3 hour camps. Instead of racing on to the next skill station, we take a water break. The story clears their mind and gives them a fresh start. Then, when the story concludes…they are chomping at the bit for more activity!
I say Long live the art of storytelling on a baseball field!
