April 11, 2026 Ride
Another successful ride took place yesterday! There were six machines and included riders: Mel, John, Ruth, Ralph, Gary, Bear, Bill, Doug, and Donna. The weather was good and of course, the scenery beautiful. The group saw a large herd of elk, two herds of deer, two herds of antelope and a flock of turkeys. Over the 80 mile ride, one machine broke down but Mel was able to go home and get his trailer with a winch and pick up the machine. Thanks to Ruth for supplying pictures and the narrative of the ride, and a big thank you to Mel for leading this ride!!

Subject: Forest Service Partner Gathering

Hello! My name is Owen. I am the Trails Crew Lead for the Alpine and Springerville districts here on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. I’m reaching out because next Monday and Tuesday (April 6th – April 7th) we are having a little get-together with all our partners that we traditionally work with on trails projects, including OHV trails. Given that we only have one designated trail for OHV between both districts, our trails program is pretty hiker/equestrian centric – although, in the past we did work with Barry to see how we can utilize Apache County ATV as a partner to help better our public lands, for all user groups.
I was curious if this partner gathering would be something that you and other members of ACATV would be interested in attending! We will be going over some basic procedures for taking on projects in partnership with the Forest Service, and I’d like to hear from the different partner groups what type of projects YOU guys feel would be worthwhile to invest time into.
I think this is a perfect opportunity for all of us to come together and get to know one another and come to the understanding that this forest is for ALL of us to recreate on, no matter the way we choose to partake in that recreation.
Monday will be a whole day, 0900 to 1400(2pm) and Tuesday will only be s half day – likely 0900 to 1130/1200.

We plan to do this gathering at the Alpine trails cache (33.83924, -109.12363) as you pull into the dirt road, we will be at the very first barn that becomes visible, on the left-hand side of the road. There will likely be a few vehicles there already, so it’ll be hard to miss. There is plenty of space to park vehicles here, and there is access to bathrooms here as well.

I know myself, and the Recreation Program Manager (Jeremy Evans) will be bringing some snacks and drinks on the first day, and I suspect other partners will bring some snacks as well.
I hope to see some of the members of Apache County ATV here at this gathering! Although I understand folks have busy schedules and other things going on, so if nobody from your group can make it, that’s okay too. If you have questions and want to contact me, E-Mailing me back at my work E-Mail (which is this E-mail) or contacting my work cell phone at (928)-270-3163 for when I’m out of the office are the best ways to get a hold of me. The work cell is typically with me even when I’m at home, so that’s the method of contact that’d likely be the quickest for me to respond to.
I look forward to hearing from you and hope to see some ATV representation at our partner gathering!

Best regards,

Owen Clark
