๐พ Meet Ginger! ๐พ
Ginger is an 8-year-old, 50-pound basset hound who is sweet, silly, smart, and wonderfully entertaining! Once she knows and trusts you, sheโs an incredibly loving companion who wants to be right by your side. Chin scratches, belly rubs, pets, and attention are some of her favorite things!
Ginger does need time to warm up to new people. She may bark at strangers and can snap if someone she doesnโt know tries to pet her. Her adopters will need to be comfortable managing introductions and respecting her boundaries. Because of this, she would do best in a home without children under 12. Older, respectful children who understand dog boundaries may be a good fit.
๐ง Smart girl! Ginger knows SIT, EASY, GENTLE, and WAIT and she learns quickly, especially when treats are involved. Just remember the EASY and GENTLE reminders because this enthusiastic girl sometimes thinks fingers are part of the snack!
๐ Ginger is housetrained and crate-trained and sleeps peacefully through the night. She is also crated when her foster family leaves.
๐พ Toys are her love language. Stuffed toys are her favorite, although her goal is apparently to remove every single piece of stuffing. She also enjoys slow walks, exploring, adventures, and the occasional full-speed basset zoomie!
๐ถ Ginger enjoys other dogs and loves playing with dogs who want to play with her. If another dog isn't interested, she's happy to leave them alone. She also loves cats!
๐ Ginger has a history of a back injury that has left her with some weakness in her back end. It's currently managed with medication and appropriate activity levels. She gets around well and enjoys being active, but her family will need to protect her back including preventing her from jumping on and off furniture. Ginger would like everyone to know that she strongly disagrees with this rule because she believes every couch belongs to her.
Ginger is looking for a family who will give her time, respect her boundaries, protect her back, and appreciate her big, goofy personality. In return, you'll get a smart, affectionate, hilarious basset ready to fill your home with love, laughter, adventures, belly rubs, and an impressive amount of toy stuffing. Sheโs currently being fostered in Indianapolis, IN. To apply to adopt, visit https://www.bassetrescue.org/adopt-proc
