Celebrating SRVEA Retirees! Class of 2026

Thank you for the years you spent arriving before sunrise and staying long after the final bell. Thank you for the weekends grading papers, rewriting lesson plans, coaching students through heartbreaks, anxieties, celebrations, and discoveries. Thank you for the countless moments that will never appear in a personnel file or retirement calculation, but mattered deeply to a child. Because the truth is this: educators rarely get to see the full impact of their careers.

Today, please know this: your work mattered. Your careers mattered. And thousands of students and families are better because you chose this profession and chose to serve this community.

Congratulations on your retirement, and thank you for a lifetime of service.

This is over $25 million for our SRVUSD students that is at risk. This follows after the district has previously implemented over $37.5 million in budget cuts over the last three years, laying off nearly 100 educators in the last two years.

Passed by California voters nearly four decades ago, guarantees funding in our state budget for public schools and community colleges. This year, that guarantee is $121.4 billion.

This year, Governor Newsom proposes to cut $5.6 billion to cover up the state’s ongoing budget deficit. All while the Governor touts California’s historic high funding for education.

Since the Governor’s announcement, school districts have issued nearly 2,500 layoff notices across the state. Unless corrected by the Legislature, Governor Newsom’s proposed shell game will result in larger class sizes, even less mental health support for students and further deepen the escalating recruitment and retention crisis of public-school teachers.

California is the fourth largest economy in the world. There’s no excuse to underfund our schools.

Will you join us? Please call Governor Gavin Newsom’s office at (916) 445-2841 to ask the governor to fully fund public education, including the $1.9 billion owed to schools this year and the projected delay of $5.6 billion next year. That is over $25 million for students in our district.
