Growing a community of care for our immigrant neighbors. 💛

Last week, 20 immigrant-serving providers gathered for our BIRD Provider Gathering to learn about the new and improved Boston Immigrant Resource Dashboard, enjoy lunch, build relationships, and imagine how we can strengthen our shared network of care.

A special thank you to Pastor Melinda Priest and Immigrant Connection at Awaken City for hosting us, and to the City of Boston Mayor’s Office for Immigrant Advancement for partnering with us in this work!

🎶 Coming up this Thursday: Brotherhood — The Love Your Neighbor Tour
Join us September 3, 7–9 PM at BU’s Howard Thurman Center for Common Ground for a free evening featuring live music, storytelling, film scenes, and conversation. The event follows two neighbors—one a lifelong U.S. citizen and one a Mexican immigrant navigating a long asylum process—and invites us to consider what it means to truly love our neighbor.

Two ways to strengthen our community: build the networks of care that help our neighbors flourish, and make space to listen to one another’s stories. 🤝🏽

Two great opportunities to celebrate Jesus in Boston this weekend! 🙌🏽🎶

From worship and prayer on the Boston Common to the city’s largest Gospel music celebration, here are two opportunities to worship with the wider Christian community:

🔥 Saturday, August 29 — March for Jesus
Join Christians from across Boston and beyond for a day of worship, prayer, and gospel proclamation, beginning at Boston City Hall and continuing to Boston Common. The march begins at 2 PM, followed by worship on the Common.

🎶 Sunday, August 30 — Boston Gospel Fest
The 26th Annual Boston Gospel Fest returns to City Hall Plaza from 4:30–8 PM! This free, family-friendly celebration features Todd Galberth, local artists and choirs—including a Community Choir representing nearly 40 churches across the region.

We love seeing Christians from different churches, traditions, cultures, and generations gathering publicly to worship, celebrate, and share the good news of Jesus.

Invite a friend or neighbor! The Holy Spirit always shows up when we worship together - May the good news of Jesus ring forth through the streets of our city! 🎶🙌🏾

Walking together. Praying together. Building peace together. 🙏🏽🚶🏽‍♀️

Faith leaders and police officers have been coming together for Unity Walks across Boston—building relationships, listening, praying, and seeking the peace of our neighborhoods.

We’re grateful for these opportunities to walk alongside one another and lift the needs of our communities before God. It’s a beautiful picture of what can happen when faith leaders and civic partners work together for the good of the city.

Every evening at Plymouth Detention Center, groups of immigrant men gather together to worship, pray, and hear the preaching of God's Word. They are enduring the heavy realities of incarceration—separated from their families, stripped of daily freedom, and facing profound physical, mental, and spiritual strain in a season of intense uncertainty.

We invite Christians in Boston to send "Querido hermano" ("Dear brother") letters to encourage these men. They are received with great joy and are a powerful reminder that they are seen, remembered, and deeply loved.

One local pastor shares, "Our church has had letter-writing nights with prayer and snacks, and it's been a joy to do together. As simple as it sounds, I think letter-writing helps slow us down, makes our advocacy personal, and allows us to directly speak truth and hope to someone really going through it."

Calling immigrant-serving providers, pastors, and advocates! Come share lunch, connect with fellow frontline leaders, and get a first look at the new Boston Immigrant Resource Dashboard (BIRD)—including enhanced resource searching, provider forums, and text updates.

🎬 Sept. 3 | Brotherhood: The Love Your Neighbor Tour

Rev. Gina Tillotson-Cordy, pastor of Lynn First Church of the Nazarene, shares how participating in UniteBoston’s inaugural Beloved Community Lab cohort impacted her personally and pastorally.

Through the Lab’s frameworks, honest conversations, and opportunities to learn across difference, Gina found herself equipped to practice hospitality and see others more deeply as beloved.

We’re excited to open this experience to a new group of Christian leaders through our online Beloved Community Lab cohort!

What happens when Christians stop working in silos and begin to converge?

In our newest blog, Pastor Josiah Armstrong invites us to imagine what could happen across Boston and New England if diverse expressions of Christ’s Church learned to walk together—not by erasing our differences, but by honoring one another’s gifts and joining together in God’s mission of healing and restoration.

As Psalm 46 reminds us, there is a river whose streams make glad the city of God. No single church, denomination, or ministry can contain everything God desires to do. We need one another.

“God defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you.” — Deuteronomy 10:18 💛

This is what it looks like when Christian communities come together to love our neighbors.

On August 1, Voice of the Gospel Tabernacle Multiservice Center partnered with Welcome NST and Immigrant Connection at Awaken City to host a free immigration legal clinic for Haitian families in Mattapan following the termination of TPS.

While Rev. Hall Kirkham from St. Michael’s Church played guitar for children outside, families inside received free consultations with Department of Justice legal representatives. Over nine hours, 40 people received legal support, with opportunities to continue their cases at dramatically reduced costs.

And this was truly a collaborative effort: 30 volunteers from churches across Greater Boston helped with interpretation, intake, food, childcare, and spiritual and emotional support.

And last week, church leaders joined MCAN for a “Faith Over Fear” prayer gathering, interceding for Haitian families and all those impacted by the loss of TPS. 🙏🏽

These are powerful pictures of people of faith and community partners showing up: praying, listening, sharing resources, and standing with our neighbors in vulnerable moments.

We’re grateful for every partner helping build a city where immigrant families are welcomed, supported, and able to flourish.
