This anonymous survey is part of a project by a team of high school students looking to improve sustainability in Westchester County. Questions will gauge public knowledge and utilization of the Westchester County Household Material Recovery Facility (H-MRF). ACT NOW FOR SOLAR POWER - WITHOUT THE PANELS

Community Solar is free to join, but usually difficult because the typical waitlist is so long. However, there is a unique opportunity for 5 or 6 households to enroll right now (first-come, first-served).

A program of Sustainable Westchester, Community Solar offers you the benefits of clean energy without the need to install a solar system on your roof. By signing up in a few simple steps, you can connect your electricity account to a nearby community solar project. The solar project injects energy into the grid on your behalf while you continue to receive electricity from your utility. Each month you receive a solar credit that provides you guaranteed monthly savings on your electricity bill! (Typically 10%) It's FREE to join and free to cancel at any time, without penalties.

The project available now, a ground-mounted solar array called Burns 1, is scheduled to go online in late 2026 and is expected to generate 59,200,080 kWh of clean energy per year.
To sign up, visit SustainableWestchester.org/CommunitySolar, click "Sign Up," then select the "Burns 1" Community Solar project and complete your enrollment.

Repairing on the Shores of the Hudson

This Saturday, July 25, Irvington will be hosting a Rivertowns Repair Cafe in a GREAT location -- at 2 Bridge Street, right on the water! Weather permitting there will be repairs happening outside and inside. So if you have prized possessions that need fixing, swing by and have the work done for free -- by experts.

AND, consider volunteering as a greeter, knitter, or textile repairer. All other fixers, like electrical/mechanical/computer people are always needed.

Volunteers who would like to team up with an experienced Repair coach for the event are welcome. Use the QR code, below.

How can you resist?

Project Mover really wants to make it easy for you to get hooked on BikeShare e-bikes. They are offering a $1,000 voucher toward the purchase of an e-bike for qualified applicants. And, swing by our DeWaste Station at any Waterfront Park Jazz Forum Concert to get a code for two free rides on BikeShare e-bikes, now available at tons of bike racks throughout Dobbs and the Rivertowns. The jazz concerts are every Wednesday evening, 6:30-8 through the end of August.

CAKE BY THE RIVER
For its first summer concert of 2026 on Wednesday, July 8, Jazz Forum served up a special thanks to its Dobbs Ferry fan base for 26 years of enthusiastic support. Our Dobbs Waterfront Park was the first free Westchester concert for Jazz Forum, and is now its longest-running concert series, with its biggest audience.

For the 4th year running, Sustainable Dobbs has hosted a DeWaste Station at each summer concert, aiming to cut down on the picnic debris by having volunteers sort it for composting or recycling. This first concert for 2026 resulted in an all-time high of 95% diverted from the waste stream, surpassing the standard 90% that qualifies it as a zero waste event.

Many thanks to the volunteers, cooperative concert-goers, and our DPW Parks crew, who rose to the challenge. Let’s keep up the good work!

This summer’s Waterfront jazz concerts also offer a special incentive to try the new Project Mover bike-share program in Dobbs, now with tons of bike racks throughout the Village and the Rivertowns. Visit a Wednesday evening concert for a discount code worth two free rides and apply for a $1,000 voucher toward a new electric bike.

Come learn about vegan-organic gardening with Roots & Wings (http://www.rivertownscommunitygardens.com) at The Manse Garden, a community learning garden. We meet Fridays 4-5pm April-November, in the backyard of 363 Broadway, Dobbs Ferry. All are welcome, but anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult. Please bring gardening gloves, but leave companion animals (pets) at home. To get involved, please email the garden manager, Greg, at [email protected].

WATERFRONT PARK CAN USE MORE FRIENDS!

Join in this Sunday, June 28, 9-11am at Willow Point (south end of Park), for some weeding, battle the invasives, and neatening up the beds. No experience necessary.

Recently, Friends of Waterfront Park turned out in force to spruce up the sparce plantings at the 9/11 Memorial site along the park’s riverside walkway, selecting native shrubs and perennials that could survive the tough conditions there.

Funds for this project came from the money our Village received as first place finishers in the Resilient Rivertowns Scavenger Hunt that took place in April. Thanks to the valiant efforts of numerous teams, our Village won a prize of $3,000 to be used for three garden projects at various parks around town.
