At The Children’s Village, our Prom Perfect Drive is helping make sure every young person who wants to attend prom can do so feeling confident, celebrated, and fully prepared for their special night.

Thanks to our community, the response so far has been incredibly meaningful. But we’re still collecting prom essentials and would love your support to help every young person walk into prom feeling their absolute best.

We are grateful for partners who are deeply invested in supporting their neighbors during times of need. Following the devastating fire on Dyckman that impacted so many families and claimed lives within the community, Emma's Torch quickly came together to provide care and support to those affected.

What began as a thoughtful outreach from Dr. Kira O’Brien and the Emma’s Torch team grew into a heartfelt community giveback effort. After days of coordination and hours of cooking by Emma’s Torch students and staff, meals were prepared and delivered to support displaced families as well as the broader community members who stepped up to help their neighbors during this difficult time.

We are incredibly thankful to Dr. Kira O’Brien, Valerie Worthy, and the leadership and students of Emma’s Torch for their compassion, generosity, and commitment to standing with the Dyckman community during such a challenging moment.

Meet David. As a student at Greenburgh Eleven, a school on our Dobbs Ferry campus, designed to support leadership, David put that belief into practice. He served as student council president, launched a student-led podcast, improved the school’s recycling program, and participated in student government.

His story is a reminder that leadership can start with something simple: paying attention, speaking up, and creating change in your school and community.

We were honored to participate in the recent walking tour of Peekskill, highlighting the partnerships and collaborative efforts shaping the future of this historic and diverse community.

During the tour, we were proud to showcase The Field Library and share our vision for new affordable homes with integrated and innovative community space at 41 N. Division Street, a project designed to strengthen connections and enhance opportunities for residents.

We are grateful to The New York Community Trust, City of Peekskill, New York, CEEPartnership, Caring for the Hungry and Homeless of Peekskill, Inc. and PeekskillHerald.com for recognizing the importance of community partnerships in improving quality of life throughout Peekskill.

The day concluded with a special visit to Copland House at Rock Hill, the historic home of Aaron Copland, which continues to inspire through its commitment to arts education and artist residency programs.

Summer is just around the corner. At our Drew Hamilton Community Center, we’re helping to provide Harlem youth ages 5–12 access to free summer activities filled with learning, friendship, and fun. ☀️

Three days a week, campers travel from Harlem to our Dobbs Ferry campus, where they dive into swimming lessons, bake tasty treats, learn to code, and participate in exciting STEM projects.

For many campers without regular access to pools, robust kitchen facilities, and cutting-edge tech, these experiences are new. And though it’s often their first time in these spaces, it’s usually not the last – Drew Hamilton’s camp has an impressive 80% retention rate.

Meet Damion. Through The Children’s Village’s cybersecurity and technology programming, he helps system-impacted youth gain real-world skills that can open doors to future careers.

In our Cisco Systems Networking Academy, youth can work toward industry-recognized certifications in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and robotics. These certifications help youth strengthen future applications for internships and higher education opportunities.

“I hope what they take away is that this certification is a first step. It's proof that they can commit to learning something new, carving out time, staying focused, and investing in themselves.”

The Children’s Village’s 175th Anniversary Circle of Friends Dinner was a memorable evening filled with celebration and gratitude. We are sincerely thankful to all who came together to support our mission and recognize the extraordinary individuals who make our work possible. The Urban Land Institute New York (ULI) awarded the Excellence in Affordable Housing Development award to our deeply-affordable building The Eliza and the Inwood Library at its 10th Annual Awards for Excellence in Development Gala—one of the real estate industry’s leading celebrations of innovative, community-centered development.

The award recognizes transformative developments that demonstrate innovation, responsible land use, sustainability, and meaningful community impact. The Eliza and the Inwood Library earned recognition for setting a new standard in mixed-use affordable housing development rooted in neighborhood needs.

Developed in partnership with Ranger Properties LLC, Housing Workshop, Community League of the Heights, Inc. - CLOTH, Alembic Community Development, and NYPL The New York Public Library, The Eliza delivers 174 deeply-affordable homes alongside a public library and community space in the heart of Inwood, Manhattan. In 1901, The Children’s Village—then called the New York Juvenile Asylum—transformed a 277-acre farm in Dobbs Ferry into a community of family-style cottages designed to provide a homelike environment. The model won gold at the 1904 St. Louis World Fair.

At a time when the child welfare system often separated families, this approach focused on keeping children connected to the people who matter most.

As we mark our 175th anniversary, we’ve grown from a single campus into a national leader in child welfare, supporting more than 21,000 children and families each year. We work with young people who have been impacted by the system, delivering prevention, short-term treatment, housing, and community-based services designed to keep children safe and families strong.
