Mission Statement

MakeSmartCool, Inc empowers our Youth, Parents, Teachers and Community to be visionaries and advocates of effective educational methods and learning experiences. MakeSmartCool’s mission is to revolutionize how young people think about education, in addition to showing them ways to avoid dangerous pitfalls that a lack of education may cause. Due to the socioeconomic challenges o

f numerous communities , which ultimately affect our young people today, education can easily become a second priority to a family’s survival and financial needs. However, our organization works tirelessly to enact change, by showing children that with tailored, engaging education, anything is possible. Additionally, MakeSmartCool, Inc motivates our youth to stay off the streets, and stay in the classrooms – where there is a ‘whole wide world’ of information just waiting to embrace them, support them, and guide them to a flourishing life. We recognize that many of our youth today, are looking for a way to be more prosperous than their current environment. MakeSmartCool, Inc helps students connect success to their knowledge base – because we know that a better future truly begins with quality education.

Prince George’s County families — Join Us This Weekend!!

Get ready for an afternoon filled with sports, games, music, food, giveaways, and community fun at the Pull Up & Play Youth Sports Experience! Whether your child is trying a sport for the first time or sharpening their skills, there’s something for everyone.

Saturday, May 9th
2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Doors Open: 1:00 PM ET
Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex
8001 Sheriff Road, Landover, MD 20785

Youth can participate in:
🏀 Basketball
📣 Cheerleading
🎾 Tennis
🏃 Track & Field
🏐 Volleyball
⛳ Golf Simulator

This FREE event is designed for all skill levels and gives young people an opportunity to learn fundamentals, build confidence, stay active, and connect with the community.

Families can also visit the Partner Pavilion featuring local nonprofits, service providers, and community organizations sharing valuable resources for children and families across Prince George’s County.

✅ Attendance is FREE, but registration is required.
✅ All youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

During National Volunteer Week, MakeSmartCool proudly recognizes our Executive Director, Anthony Tilghman.

For the past 8 years, Anthony has volunteered weekly at Spaulding Library, leading the Kids Read Program and helping children strengthen their reading skills and comprehension. Through his dedication, mentorship, and consistency, he has helped more than 1,000 young people build confidence and a stronger academic foundation.

His commitment goes beyond the classroom, he is investing in futures, one child at a time. This is what service looks like. This is what leadership looks like.

What started in 2013 as a vision to change how young people view education has grown into a real movement through Make Smart Cool—empowering youth, parents, and communities to believe that being smart is the coolest thing you can be. (makesmart.cool)

Through our premier program at Spaulding Library, Kids Read, we’ve spent years showing up consistently—helping over 1,000 young people improve their reading levels and building confidence one child at a time.

And the impact goes even further…
