Where to start…✨

This past week, we held our first gathering with the Changemakers Cohort 2026. When I tell you it felt like, for a moment, we slipped into another dimension, and all was as it should be.

These women, such powerhouses in their own right.

We shared space for a day and a half, but it felt like much longer. The conversations were widespread and in-depth.

The Changemakers cohort was created to bring individuals together from communities across North Dakota to express community strengths and barriers, and ultimately create action plans for how we can be of service to our communities in the vessel of violence prevention.

First Nations Women’s Alliance looks forward to our collaborative efforts and continuing the good work. 🩵

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.💜

Throughout this month, we will be sharing words and reflections from our First Nations Women’s Alliance staff as we stand together to bring awareness to domestic violence, support survivors, and encourage healing within our communities. This week we will feature two staff.

Today we share words from Kateri Marion, OVC Coordinator here within FNWA. Kateri brings so much energy and relationship building to our coalition. She does a phenomenal job in her coordination with interns and placements. She is the epitome of hard work. Thank you Kateri for being you and always putting your entire heart into this work. We all appreciate you! 🪻

Share with us how you actively stand with and support survivors. Share in any way you feel moved to, in a comment or private message, and please remember to honor privacy wishes of any survivors. 🫶🏽💜

Today during Changemakers, First Nations Women’s Alliance celebrated the closing of our second cohort of the Developing Victim Specialists in Indian Country OVC Internship Program!

We are so proud of our interns—their dedication, compassion, and growth as advocates. From their contributions to the Stand Against Sexual Assault Conference to the relationships they built along the way, each brought something special to this program.

Miigwech to our Tribal college partners, college presidents and staff, mentors, and host sites for supporting our interns and helping make these opportunities possible. Together, we are preparing advocates who will strengthen our communities and support survivors.

Congratulations to our interns! Your work matters, your voices matter, and we look forward to seeing the difference you will continue to make. ❤️🪶

As we participate in Red Sand Day at Tribal Colleges of North Dakota, honoring and remembering our relatives who have fallen through the cracks of societies, we give thanks for Louise and other gifted writers who lift up and bring light to Indigenous peoples.

The graphic celebrates Turtle Mountain novelist Louise Erdrich and her literary achievements. An enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, Erdrich has spent decades bringing complex Native characters, family histories, and community experiences into American literature.
Her novels, including The Round House, The Night Watchman, and The Sentence, have earned widespread recognition while addressing identity, relationships, history, and the continuing presence of Indigenous communities. Her work reminds readers that Native stories belong at the center of contemporary literature, told with depth, humor, and humanity.
