The people who sustain Colorado’s agriculture deserve care and support that sustain them, too. 🌾

With 52 of Colorado’s 64 counties classified as rural or frontier, supporting rural mental health is central to our mission of promoting healthier minds across the lifespan for all Coloradans.

Yesterday, our Vice President of Government Affairs, Wendy Buxton-Andrade, joined agricultural leaders, policymakers, and care providers at the Colorado Agricultural Behavioral Health Summit in Fort Morgan, Colorado to learn from one another and strengthen connections.

Pictured with Wendy are Representative Dusty A Johnson , Voices for Healthier Minds guest Jason Santomaso, and Robert Sakata of Colorado Department of Agriculture. Jason’s session, moderated by Robert, explored reframing mental health in agricultural communities.

Thank you to Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, the Colorado Department of Agriculture, and the Colorado Behavioral Health Administration for bringing these voices together. Listening to rural communities helps us advance care and support that reflect Coloradans' needs—wherever they call home. 🧡

What actually saves lives? Investing in what works: Access to care. Overdose prevention. Recovery support. Stable housing.

These are the kinds of solutions that help prevent overdose deaths and create safer, healthier communities.

Proposition 132 would impose longer mandatory prison sentences for certain fentanyl-related offenses. But harsher penalties alone won't address the underlying causes of harmful substance use or reliably prevent overdose deaths.

Colorado deserves solutions that combine accountability with prevention, care, and recovery, not more incarceration at the expense of community well-being.
