Alliance to Lead Impact in Global Human Trafficking ALIGHT helps human trafficking survivors at scale by mobilizing pro bono attorneys (via app ~Lyft).

ALIGHT is a 501(c)(3) startup nonprofit working to help human trafficking survivors in Colorado and beyond since 2015 to unlock a fresh start. ⠀
⠀
Our approach is unique and impactful - we connect survivors to the right attorney at the right time through a smartphone app (think: Lyft). From fighting for child custody to clearing criminal records, our mobilized legal network has helped survivors on 200+ legal matters and has been nationally-recognized with the passage of the American Bar Association Resolution 113. ⠀

ALIGHT is proud to announce a new partnership with Black Women for Positive Change.

We are joining BW4PC during the 15th Annual Month of Nonviolence, a national campaign that brings communities together around safety, healing and nonviolence. What we share is a commitment to survivor-centered justice.

Together we will examine what human trafficking looks like in Los Angeles, the experiences of survivors and the critical role attorneys can play in advancing justice, dignity and pathways to healing.

This partnership is part of a larger national movement, and we are honored to stand within it.

Something special is in the works. Stay tuned.

The Fire Lily made its way to Colorado. A few weeks ago, Andrea Cristina Rigo hosted a Fire Lily salon in her home.

A salon is an intimate, hosted gathering, traditionally held in someone's living room instead of on a stage. That scale is what makes it work for a conversation like this one. It puts people in a room together, and that closeness is what lets a real conversation happen instead of a presentation.

More than 35 women came together for that conversation about the survivor's journey. Thank you, Andrea, for opening that space. Thank you also for your fantastic co-hosts Jennifer Miller and Susan Minamizono.

We also want to highlight UnSuk Zucker, who brought the fire lily symbol to life in a custom cake for the occasion.

This is what ALIGHT's expansion into new communities looks like in practice. If you want to host a Fire Lily salon where you live, reach out to us at [email protected].

Survivors of human trafficking often carry damaged credit long after leaving a trafficking situation. Traffickers can open accounts, take out loans or run up debt in a survivor's name, leaving evictions, defaults and collections on their credit report.

The federal Debt Bo***ge Repair Act gives survivors a path to address that. On October 24, ALIGHT and LA Law Library are hosting an in-person pro bono Credit Repair Legal Clinic in downtown Los Angeles, connecting survivors with pro bono attorneys who can help remove those marks from their credit reports.

This is the 9th credit repair clinic offered through the National Survivor Law Collective , of which ALIGHT is a co-founder, expanding access to consumer-protection remedies for survivors in the area.

For LA-area survivors who wish to participate through this clinic through ALIGHT, intake calls must be scheduled by October 19. If you work with a survivor who may qualify, now's the time to reach out.

The The Human Trafficking Legal Center has published a new Survivor Guide that walks through the legal process in plain language . It answers the questions survivors actually ask: what happens next, what I can decline, who has access to my information, what a lawyer is and isn't obligated to do.

ALIGHT is included as a legal resource. We connect survivors with pro bono attorneys for the civil and criminal matters that follow trafficking: record relief, fraudulent debt, custody, identity theft and more.

If you work with survivors as a case manager, advocate, shelter staff or attorney, this is a fantastic resource to keep on hand.

Survivor leadership isn't advisory at ALIGHT. It shapes which legal barriers we take on.

At last month's Summit, we were joined by Survivor Advisory Council members Megan Lundstrom and Hollie Nadel — both of whom made the case better than we could.

Megan's work at Polaris shows what's at stake. Through the new Workforce Development & Economic Empowerment pillar and its partnership with Elevate Academy, Polaris is building pathways into employment for survivors. But a criminal record incurred while being trafficked will stop a qualified candidate at the background check — every time.

That's the barrier ALIGHT removes. Vacatur and record relief clear the way for the work Megan is building.

From the stage, Hollie put it directly: legal services aren't an afterthought to a survivor's exit from trafficking. They're what makes it hold.

Removing legal barriers is where survivor services, workforce programs and economic mobility converge. ALIGHT works at that intersection with the organizations moving this movement forward.
