We asked Phil Weiser if he would support lifting the ban on rent stabilization measures in Colorado.

Since we're getting a new governor soon, it's important we push for the next one to support local governments having the tools to stabilize local rents and finally put a check on the corporate greed that keeps driving our rents up every year.

Coroprate landlords need to be held accountable for their greed. The consistent rent increases have forced families out of their homes and fractured our communities.

Our solution of stabilizing the rents is rooted in the idea that homes are for people and that housing is a human right!

Build more? How about do more?

More supply just means more assets for corporate landlords to own, price gouge, and profit from. It doesn't help people who are struggling make rent this month.

If we're talking about making housing affordable, we need to talk about how we can take control away from the greediest corporations and give it back to local communities.

Building more housing and hoping things get better assumes our rents are priced by dark and mysterious forces beyond our comprehension.

But it’s the greedy corporations that have total control over how our housing is priced, governed and operated.

What’s the good in building new homes if no one can afford to live there? We need to let local communities decide what affordable looks like to them and have the power to keep rents at a prices makes sense.

🚨ACTION ALERT: Tell HUD to keep families together and withdraw their new proposed rule targeting blended American families.

https://actionnetwork.org/letters/keep-families-together-26

HUD is proposing a new rule to undo longstanding guidelines that allow aspiring citizens to live with their family members in federal housing.

If HUD pushes this through, hundreds of thousands of families will face eviction unless they force their own family members out of their homes.

Undocumented immigrants receive no federal assistance so their households pay more rent! And now HUD is putting these families further at risk of eviction or violence from ICE and CBP.

Tell HUD to withdraw the rule & keep families together and in their homes.

When corporate landlords are allowed to raise rent however much they want year after year, people get forced out of their longtime homes and communities. No wonder we have record eviction rates in Colorado.

But if we cap rent increases to 3% each year, we wouldn't have to dread renewing leases or carry the anxiety about how we're going to make ends meet.

We can pass laws that cap the rent and makes it, so corporate landlords aren't allowed to bully working families out of their homes.

It's a universal experience. You put in a maintenance request. It sits unresolved for months. And when your corporate landlord finally comes around to fix it, they somehow make it worse.

But because they've written the housing laws in Colorado, they get to raise our rents, ignore repairs, kick back and collect profit.

Rents are way too high. Corporate landlords only want to raise them higher each year. But if we cap the rents at 3%, we keep rents affordable and families in their homes.

Colorado will be a place where everyone, no matter their race, place or background, can afford a safe and stable home for the long term.

To get there, we have to ensure corporate landlords aren't allowed to push families out, erase the histories of our neighborhoods, or treat homes like investment assets.

We do this by using our collective power to pass social housing laws that keep corporate greed in check AND create housing that meet our long-term needs.

Los Angeles just updated its rent stabilization laws for the first time in 40 years. This reform will cap rents at 1-4% a year for over 40% of LA renters.

Meanwhile in Colorado, our statewide ban on rent stabilization has let corporate landlords unjustly raise rents however they want, for as much as they want, year after year.

Together, we have the power to overturn the ban on rent stabilization and fight back against the corporate price gouging that is forcing us and our neighbors to move farther and farther away from their work, schools and loved ones.

By organizing together, CO Springs residents built the power needed to start pushing their landlord to fix long-ignored problems in their building.

When we fight for what's right, whether that's fixing your HVAC or passing sweeping statewide renter protections, we can hold corporate landlords accountable for their slumlord behavior. When renters speak out together, we get to see the full picture of our housing issues and create solutions that actually address them.

11/24/2025

When people can stay in their homes for the long term, it strengthens our communities, and gives everyone a chance to plan for their futures.

Together, we can overturn the ban on rent stabilization and put real protections in place against corporate price gouging and unjust rent hikes.
