Today is Women's Equality Day!

And at Heritage Camps, we are celebrating the women who are making equality happen, every single day. Our leadership, our volunteers, our campers.

Our community is filled with women leading with heart. Women creating connection. Women changing lives. Women raising strong women. Women empowering other women.

Thank you to all the women of Heritage Camps.👏💜

What better way to spend a little break between camps than to support many of our camp members at the recent CPR News event Voices Unbound: A Live Conversation on Identity and Belonging!

This powerful evening explored the shared journeys of refugees, immigrants and adoptees—stories so different on the surface, yet so similar in how they navigate finding home and preserving heritage.

Pam (Founding Director) and Alexandra (Marketing & Operations Manager) were in attendance, hearing from hosts Nathan Fernando-Frescas and Nga Vương-Sandoval about their incredible lived experiences, plus those of Leela Welch from our INHC community and DAC Director, Sheila Chester's beautiful performance. It all reminded us why community is so important.

It's a simple but powerful truth: you're never alone. Many others are facing similar challenges and feelings. And community has the power to help shape your identity.

We can't wait to hear the entire conversation when it airs. Stay tuned! 💛

🪎Thank you DAC Team Volunteers!

Camp just wrapped and our hearts are full.

This weekend, we welcomed a large and beautifully diverse group of adoptees, parents, siblings, extended family and friends. They came ready to learn about adoption culture, to have fun, to engage deeply, and to discover belonging.

And every single magical moment—every laugh, every meaningful conversation, every time someone felt truly seen and celebrated—happened because of YOU, our incredible volunteers.

To our volunteer Directors, Coordinators, Counselors and Presenters:

You are the backbone of Domestic Adoption Camp. You showed up, some driving hours, some giving your weekend away from family, all of you pouring your hearts into creating spaces where adoption is celebrated!🎉

You led activities with patience and joy. You listened with compassion. You created an environment where families could just be themselves with little explanation. You affirmed identity. You support this thriving community.

We couldn't do it without you. You are what makes Heritage Camp continue. You are what makes families feel safe. You are what reminds adoptees they're not alone.

From every family who felt welcomed. From every adoptee who felt affirmed. From every parent who found support. A BIG THANK YOU! 💛

Domestic Adoption Camp (DAC) Kicks Off Today!🎉

For the next 4 days, we'll welcome adoptees of all ages from all racial and cultural backgrounds. As a family event, parents, siblings, extended family and even friends will join in. To learn, to laugh, maybe cry and ultimately celebrate discovering identity and belonging.

For adoptees: This weekend is about finding your people. Celebrating your identity. Affirming that adoption is just part of your story. You belong here. 💛

For parents: This weekend is about connection and understanding. Talking with others who truly get it. Discovering you're not alone in this journey. Finding support that lasts long after camp ends.❤️

For all of us: This is about building community and celebrating adoption! About building connections that carry forward into the rest of the year—and the rest of your lives.

Domestic Adoption Camp welcomes adopted and fostered children, teens and adults from all racial and cultural backgrounds, born anywhere in the United States, and their entire families.

Follow along on Instagram (@ heritagecamps) for what’s happening all weekend long as we show what it means to celebrate community together!🤩

📑Free Resources Friday!

As your favorite post-adoption community, we’re starting a new content series of sharing great, free resources to support adoptees and their families.

This week, we are highlighting the voice of Michael Gaither, a Black adoptee raised in a white family in Nebraska. After more than 30 years in education, he has found a powerful way to articulate his lived experience:

"White parents raising Black children are doing something brave and something hard. I know because someone did it for me. I also know what was missing."

Michael created a studio to guide white adoptive parents raising Black children, offering unique insights and perspective that no book alone can provide.

🗓️SAVE THE DATE: July 27 at 6:30 PM MT🗓️

During this event, two members of the community are taking the stage during an important public conversation about identity and belonging.

Nathan Fernando-Frescas, an HCAF camper and CPR Senior Host, will be exploring the question that started it all: "Why did you change your name?" alongside community leader Nga Vương-Sandoval.

Sheila Chester, one of our dedicated camp directors, is performing as a singer alongside Nguyen Thieu Lion Dancers and acoustic guitarist Javi Gutierrez.

"Voices Unbound" is a powerful dialogue about questions that resonate deeply in our adoptive family community.
