This….. Are hearts are there for each and every child. We become so attached to our child that it hurts so deeply when we lose one to this horrible disease. God bless all of them. ❤️

As Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, we’re remembering why this work matters so deeply.

Meet Emmalyn, a 4-year-old artma kid artist whose protector was Spidey Stitch.

Emmalyn was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma shortly after her second birthday and spent much of her young life in treatment. For this year's artma, kids receiving care at Children’s Hospital Colorado created a drawing of their personal protector or fighter, someone or something that helps them feel strong, brave, and hopeful. The Glass Artists of Colorado brought their visions to life and Emmalyn’s Spidey Stitch was transformed into glass by Mike and Sandi Penfound.

For Emmy, Spidey Stitch protected her from “shots, pokes and doctors, and yucky medicine.”

Through it all, she also made time to be a kid. To dance and sing, play with her toys, paint dinosaurs, cuddle her stuffies, and enjoy her favorite things.

Emmy passed away shortly after artma, at just four years old.

This Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, we remember the children we weren’t able to save.

Their lives matter. Their stories matter. And they are why we keep working for more.

More research. Better treatments. More support for families. And, ultimately, more children who get the chance to grow up.

We carry Emmy with us as we continue the fight, for her, for every child with cancer, and for every family who has lost a child.

September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month.

September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, a time to recognize the strength, courage, and resilience of children and families facing cancer.

Meet Adeline, a 6-year-old artma kid artist whose piece, 🌈 Rainbow, 🌈 began as a drawing and became something extraordinary. Each artma, kids and young adults receiving care at Children’s Hospital Colorado are invited to create a drawing of their personal protector or fighter, someone or something that helps them feel strong, brave, and hopeful. Talented glass artists with the Glass Artists of Colorado then bring their visions to life as one-of-a-kind glass sculptures. Adeline’s Rainbow was transformed into glass by Mike Penfound and Sandi Penfound.

Adeline shared that there are seven letters in both “Rainbow” and “Adeline,” and seven colors in a rainbow. But Rainbow means so much more to her. Rainbow reminds her, “When things get hard, stay cool and keep working.” And when she needs to, “cry if you need to then keep moving.”

Her words are a beautiful reminder that courage doesn’t always mean being fearless. Sometimes, it means letting yourself feel, finding comfort, and continuing forward.

This Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, we’re honored to share the stories behind the incredible young artists of artma. Their creativity gives us another way to see the strength, hope, and resilience that exists within the pediatric cancer community.

The Ponzio Creative Arts Therapy team at 's Hospital Colorado partnered with 21 incredible kids, teens, and young adults receiving treatment in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders to bring their imaginations to life. Each patient created a drawing of their own “protector” or “fighter” character — a powerful symbol of strength, comfort, and courage.

Members of the Glass Artists of Colorado then transformed these two-dimensional drawings into breathtaking three-dimensional glass sculptures. All 21 one-of-a-kind pieces will be featured in the silent auction at this year’s artma on February 28th.

Here’s a sneak peek at Philomena’s “Rolly Polly the Pig,” beautifully brought to life in glass by Karen Harrison.

“This is Rolly Polly the Pig. She’s very round and fat! She got her name because she rolls around a lot. She’s important to me because whenever I feel sad, she’s always ready for a cuddle. Her special power is her horn, which shoots sparkles all around when she’s happy! She mostly does it when she’s with her best friend Bubblie the axolotl or when she’s eating her favorite snack, cupcakes. Her superpower always makes me feel better because I love sparkles and I love Rolly Polly. Put the two together and nobody can help but smile!”

To all Colorado art people. .....
Every two years,The Glass Artists of Colorado, of which I am the president, does a special project with the Morgan Adams Foundation called "The Kid's Project" We take drawings , created by children who have cancer, and reproduce them in glass. We also make a special gift out of glass, for the child to remind him/her of their drawing. We auction them off at a huge benefit called ARTMA, where they auction off a huge collection of donated art, good art, to help raise money for pediatric cancer research. A huge amount of people attend this event and raise a very large amount of funds for this cause. This year, the event is on 02/28/2026. For more information, go to www.morganadamsfoundation.org
This years's theme for the kid's is to draw their protector. We received 21 drawings, more than we have ever had. Last time we had the privilege of meeting a lot of these children, matching glass artist with child artist. The children feel they are helping to raise funds for their cause and are full of hugs and smiles. This is so important for them and a great way to "give back". This also helps get glass art in front of people's faces as a large art form in Colorado. A win/win situation.
