LWVPPR is dedicated to two elections this fall! There's the mid-terms, yes, but we're looking forward to Girl Scouts experiencing elections with us at The Voter Girl Project on November 7, at UCCS! Let your Girl Scouts know!

Want to help? Volunteers are needed!
Visit our website at LWVPPR.org/volunteers to help educate Girl Scouts kindergarten through 12th grade learn about democracy, help us with our mini-election for the girls, set out refreshments for volunteers, or be a hallway monitor (especially great role if you just want to read a good book).

We are also taking donations to support the purchase of patches, UCCS fees, troop leader refreshments and volunteer lunches (another great reason to sign up!). Donations welcome at LWVPPR.org/donate.

Blog: Why the League of Women Voters of Colorado Opposes Proposition 133 - Penalties for Human Trafficking of a Minor

The League of Women Voters of Colorado considers human trafficking a form of modern-day slavery. We believe traffickers should be prosecuted and severely punished. That is exactly why we oppose Proposition 133. As written, it is likely to punish the children it claims to protect.
Traffickers do not work alone. They routinely force or groom their victims into running parts of the operation: recruiting friends, posting ads, collecting money, watching younger children. This is deliberate. It deepens the trafficker’s control, spreads the legal risk, and leaves victims afraid that coming forward will expose their own role.
The Jeffrey Epstein case showed this pattern to the whole country. Girls Epstein abused were paid to bring him other girls, and some recruiters had been recruited as teenagers themselves. Colorado’s trafficking cases follow the same pattern.
