October is Clergy Appreciation Month, and Mosaic is pausing to celebrate its faith-based origins and honor the spiritual leaders who sustain its mission.

Across the country, local Mosaic agencies are expressing their gratitude to church partners through letters, personal calls, and special community events.

See what Mosaic in Southwest Kansas is doing to celebrate:

Customers respond favorably to businesses that employ people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, which increases brand loyalty. That’s just one of several reasons hiring people with IDD is a smart business move. There are others you can read about in Mosaic’s latest blog post. There’s also a great video on the page for you to enjoy. It shows how one person can influence the staff members all around him.

Squalor, abuse, and neglect were commonplace in public institutions of the early 20th century. One man felt the church should offer something better, and that was the beginning of Mosaic’s history in 1913.

Our new history video explores how Mosaic has evolved since then to meet new needs while keeping our core values intact. It also looks at how the world has become more inclusive of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, even though there’s still a long way to go.

Mosaic will continue to stand with and for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and other diverse needs. We’ve got the grit to face and overcome challenges as we work to empower the people we support through personalized services, helping them have better lives and a brighter future.

During National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we celebrate and honor the value and talent workers with disabilities bring to America’s workplaces. At Mosaic, we get to witness how employment opportunities transform their lives every day.

We understand that applying and interviewing for a job can be both exciting and nerve-racking for everyone. Our employment coordinators at Living Innovations share five tips to help people with IDD turn that nervousness into confidence.

Everyone deserves health care that recognizes the person, not the disability. Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and other diverse needs may find themselves in situations where medical professionals dismiss, question, or downplay their health concerns, attributing symptoms to their disability. In this blog, Mosaic’s Health Services Coordinator shares how to keep the lines of communication open and advocate for yourself or a person you support.

Home- and community-based services (HCBS) empower people with disabilities and diverse needs to live as independently as possible and with as much choice as possible.

You may have heard about the Texas v. Kennedy lawsuit. Recently, the U.S. Department of Justice agreed to settle it by removing federal Section 504 rules requiring states to prioritize funding for in-home care over institutional care. If approved by a judge, this settlement would send a misguided message to states that they don't have to worry about providing HCBS.

Mosaic is telling lawmakers that people with disabilities have a right to live in their communities, not in institutions, now and for generations to come.

Mosaic leaders traveled to Washington, D.C., last week to demonstrate our support for the Recognizing the Role of Direct Support Professionals Act among other priorities.

The legislation would create a unique Standard Occupational Classification for DSPs, which doesn’t exist today. This is an important step in helping states and the federal government collect data that could lead to positive changes for DSPs and therefore, people with disabilities and diverse needs.

Photos from the visit are below. You can join us in supporting the legislation by responding to the current Action Alert on MosaicAlliedVoices.org.
