Today marks the 10 year anniversary of the completion of the first ever team run across the USA for sarcoma cancer...
July 20th, 2013, Landon Gallant (formerly Cooper), Ryan Priest, & John McKay walked into the Atlantic Ocean after 157 days across the Lincoln Highway. Awaiting for us in Ocean City, Maryland were supporters, families, runners, triathletes, city officials, police escorts, and beach going tourists.
It all began on Valentines Day 2013 in Ocean Beach, San Francisco. The boys & I slept in a parking lot across from Alcatraz prison the night before. The following morning we began a 14 state team run through the Sierras, Rockies, the loneliest highway in America & the Appalachian mountains.
We met Indian spiritual leaders, cancer specialists, cancer families, Non-Profit leaders, and several scientists. We visited countless hospitals, research facilities, schools, & cancer events.
Each of our arms held hundreds of people that are no longer here.
In those 157 days across the USA we raised $103,000 in partnership with Sarcoma Foundation of America. Creating a research grant with the University of Washington. The mission reached over 44 countries worldwide. And, connected countless sarcoma cancer families with other sarcoma cancer families around the world.
The 3,187 mile team run inspired many individuals to start their own Non-Profits. And, a documentary was brought into the world from all the footage captured on the 2013 team run. A documentary titled, "Pursuit To Give & Inspire." A 2 hour film condensed from 1,000 hours of footage.
The 2013 Miles 2 Give team was featured in over 120 news segments. Less than a year later, a new Miles 2 Give series of teams completed a 10,000 mile lap around the perimeter of the USA in partnership with Huntsman Cancer Institute. A 230 day trek that traveled and ran through 32 states.
The 2013 Miles 2 Give team was awarded the "Key To The City" of Ocean City, Maryland in recognition of team athletic achievement & philanthropic contribution. Ever since 2014, I still get messages every year...
"Will there be another run some day?"
"Will there be another tour?"
One thing I can tell you, is that if we have miles to go, we have Miles 2 Give. Enjoy the trailer of "Pursuit To Give & Inspire" below. We thank you all for the love & support. We are forever honored to have held a light to the underdog cancer for so many around the world.
With great heart,
-Landon, Ryan, John, & Ryan Bonhardt
