Congratulations to Justice Monica Márquez for making history!

Supreme Court Justice Monica M. Márquez was sworn in Friday, July 26, 2024, as Colorado’s new chief justice, making her the first Latina in Colorado’s history to hold the title of chief. Justice Márquez succeeds Justice Brian D. Boatright as chief justice of the Supreme Court after a three-year term in the leadership position.

On March 7, 2023, the University of Denver Sturm College chapter of the Federalist Society invited a guest speaker to campus for a talk the focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in academia as antithetical to free speech, and calling for dismantling of DEI departments. In response to justifiable student outrage, University administrators severely curtailed students’ freedom of speech, threatened honor code violations, and even threatened to raise questions of students’ character and fitness before licensing authorities.
