Brahms wrote music about something we all experience: the need to be comforted, supported, and reminded that sorrow doesn't have the final word. Sung by a community of voices, that message becomes even more powerful. Join us for our fall concert: Held.

METAMORPHOSIS: SONGS OF TRANSFORMATION - our 2026-2027 season

Transformation rarely occurs all at once. We are shaped by the people who care for us, the communities that gather around us, and the hope we create together.

This season, Elus Vocal Ensemble explores the many ways music carries us through change. In Held, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem offers comfort in the face of loss and reminds us of our capacity to carry one another through times of uncertainty. Gather: Holidays with Elus celebrates the warmth, joy, and traditions that draw us together. And in Becoming, Bryan Grosbach’s Shall We Have That Singing looks toward what comes next—asking us to imagine the world we might create when we raise our voices together.

Metamorphosis is a season about the experiences that transform us—and the extraordinary things that can happen when we experience them together.

Tomorrow is the big night! It’s our last concert of the season. Elus Vocal Ensemble presents REFLECTIONS: To the Hands.

The music featured on this program centers around Caroline Shaw’s powerful six-movement work, To the Hands. Written to reflect the ongoing global and local refugee crises and our place within them, To the Hands contains a multitude of sounds, ancient and new, and establishes the central focus for the surrounding pieces on the concert.

Themes of unconditional love and belonging weave throughout the concert to create a tapestry of sound upon which we will explore the joy and responsibility of being in community through music. The concert also features a string quintet for several of the pieces.
