The Cancer League of Colorado Race 4 Research 5K is a charitable race/walk in Washington Park, Denver Michele was diagnosed with brain cancer in December, 1996.

Race For Research is a Fun Run/Walk organized in memory of Michele Plachy-Rubin. Michele fought the disease valiantly but, unfortunately, lost her fight in May of 1998. Michele's friends and family continue her fight against cancer through the Race For Research. All proceeds from the Race For Research will be donated to the Cancer League of Colorado. The Cancer League of Colorado donates all grants locally in Colorado funding over $1 million in research grants to the University of Colorado Cancer Center and cancer patient support organizations.

Meet our 2026 Race 4 Research Honorees: Michele Plachy-Rubin & Sondra Plachy.
Thirty years ago, Michele’s cancer journey inspired family and friends to create the very first Race 4 Research. Years later, Sondra faced the same diagnosis and witnessed how advances in cancer research gave her precious extra years with her family.
Their stories are a powerful reminder of why we continue to race—to fund lifesaving research, support families, and bring hope to those facing cancer.
