Colorado Healthcare Ethics Forum CHEF provides education, resources and ethics consultation training to the Colorado healthcare ethics

CHEF supports the Colorado healthcare ethics community through:

Cultivating the foundations of ethical practice by providing education, training, and resources to members of ethics committees and others involved in ethics consultation;

Helping advance awareness of ethical issues by promoting opportunities for ethics education statewide;

Educating community members to become effective indi

vidual and organizational providers of ethical health care and conduits for information and resources to the larger health care community;

Facilitating opportunities for collaboration and networking of persons and organizations interested in participating in health care ethics.

Rich D’Ambrosio, JD, Regional Chief Legal Officer for Advent Health’s Rocky Mountain Region, is a featured speaker at this year's Colorado Healthcare Ethics Forum Annual Conference. With decades of legal and ethics experience in healthcare—including leadership roles at Centura, Cheyenne Regional, and Exempla—Mr. D’Ambrosio brings deep insight to the complex intersection of law, ethics, and care.

Session: Approaching Advance Care Planning in the Context of Dementia

Advance care planning is essential — but how do we adapt it meaningfully for individuals living with dementia?

Join Dr. Hillary Lum, geriatrician, palliative medicine physician, and Medical Director of the GUIDE program at CU Medicine, as she shares compassionate, practical strategies to tailor care planning for persons with dementia and their families of choice.

👉This session will focus on applying and adapting advance care planning approaches to meet the care planning needs of persons with dementia and their families of choice. In this session, you will:
🔹 Describe advance care planning approaches for a general population
🔹 Outline key adaptations for persons living with dementia, including assessment of capacity and considerations for supportive decision making
🔹 Practice eliciting values and preferences, including in the context of dementia

Dr. Lum’s work focuses on improving dementia care, caregiver support, and early detection through research and collaboration with the Colorado Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias Action Coalition.
