Last week, we had the incredible opportunity to receive almost 1,000 donated string instruments from P***n Music Center We can’t begin to express our gratitude to the team at P***n for making this a reality, and to the fine folks who helped us load the truck in Springfield, MO, and unload the truck in Denver!

This past week, we notified 93 schools in 38 districts across Colorado that they’ll receive refurbished instruments later this summer!

We believe that access to a playable instrument is the greatest barrier for young musicians to overcome. As the cost-of-living continues to spiral, Bringing Music to Life helps make participation in music education financially possible for students and their families. By supplying professionally repaired, high-quality instruments at no cost, we help an old instrument tell a new story.

A thousand thanks to the fine folks at The D'Addario Foundation for providing Bringing Music to Life with an in-kind grant of guitar, bass, and violin strings. Our repair partners Luther Strings and LoCo Guitar Works will use these strings on dozens of our refurbished instruments before they head back into schools later this summer. Last week, we had the incredible chance to support a young musician to receive a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Free Guitars 4 Kids has partnered with Grammy-nominated guitarist, composer, and producer Cory Wong to present a young musician with a guitar at each show on his current tour. James, a young Musician at BMTL–recipient school Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy, and his teacher, Rachel Davis, were able to attend Cory’s Denver show, where he presented James with a brand new guitar during the performance!

A 1,000 thanks to Free Guitars 4 Kids and Cory Wong for inviting us to be a small part of the experience. Be on the lookout for additional news from Free Guitars 4 Kids and Bringing Music to Life in the future–plans are in the making to expand access to music education!

Now that our spring instrument drive is over, we spent the day at Rocky Mountain Music Repair inspecting, evaluating, and sorting hundreds of brass and woodwind instruments. It's all part of the process to get an instrument back into the hands of a young musician so an old instrument can tell a new story!

Some of the "stories" we discovered include:
- a tenor sax played on Ike & Tina Turner recordings
- a collection of 70+ cornets donated by the widow of a professional musician
- an alto sax played on the first radio broadcast (!)
- a trumpet played by four generations of a family
- a tenor sax played in Artie Shaw's big band

The instruments are in—but the magic is just beginning. Each donated instrument will now be expertly cleaned, repaired, and tuned to ensure they are in excellent, playable condition for students.
