How the news is reported, why, when, and by whom, goes a long way in determining our knowledge and understanding of the African continent. Founded in 2004 by George Bamu, Africa Agenda is a small non-profit based in Denver that seeks to change the narrative of African news. The organization believes the one-sided pattern of journalistic reporting about Africa needs to be counterbalanced so everyone gets a full picture of the continent. WHAT WE DO
Africa Agenda activities involve journalism and news training, an annual Africa summit in Denver, the celebration of World Press Freedom Day, a "Best in Africa Reporting Awards" as well as critical news analysis about the continent. Africa Agenda is the publisher of Africa News Matters, a content website with fresh, critical, and insightful news stories that sort out the news, bringing your attention to the issues that may not have gotten the most coverage during the week. Our selection of daily, weekly, and monthly stories includes a list of the most important stories from think pieces, to opinion pieces, to important developing stories. OUR HISTORY
While Africa Agenda is small, we are very much an established and important resource to the Denver metro area. With limited resources, the organization has had many successes since 2004 such as working across the Denver metro area with hundreds of volunteers, many of the local universities, Africa-oriented networks, African leaders, and organizations. We have organized dozens of forums highlighting the beneficial activities and issues of interest to the global African community. We’ve spearheaded initiatives to expand democracy and development through our programs. CONTACT US
