DIFRC would like to specially thank the Denver East High School Natives United Club for their generous donation!

The students from East High School reached out to DIFRC's Wakanyeja (Youth) program for assistance on facilitating their own beading workshop for all DPS Native students. In reciprocity, Natives United Club decided to use their own money they fundraised to buy feminine overnight products and bags to donate to DIFRC's ICWA services.

The families we serve often need the basic necessities and we strive to give them the best we can. If you are ever interested in donating to DIFRC's mission and services, please reach out! Donations like this make the world of a difference to our famiies.

Thank you to DPS NACE and all the work they do to instill traditional values like generosity into our Native youth!

DIFRC is excited to co-sponsor the 3rd Annual Indigenous Pride Extravaganza with the Two-Spirit & Native LGBTQ+ Center for Equity on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Rose Andom Center!
Join us at 6pm for dinner & gathering, with Native drag performances beginning at 7pm. Nationwide Parking is available next to the building for a fee and street parking is available along Fox Street (please read signs).
Come celebrate Indigenous Pride, community, and culture with us. Happy Pride Month—we hope to see you there!

Call for Native Artists
We are commissioning two beaded medallions for our upcoming Red Ribbon Run.

These pieces will be awarded to the 2nd and 3rd place finishers and will honor the strength, resilience, and care that carry our families and communities forward.

Theme:
Strides for Stronger Families

We’re looking for:
- Two handcrafted beaded medallions
- Designs reflecting strength, healing, family, and community
- Culturally grounded work rooted in Native identity and storytelling

Artist Compensation:
Paid commission (details shared upon selection)

How to Apply:
Submit:
- Your name and Tribal affiliation (if applicable)
- 3 finished beadwork examples

Submissions can be sent by:
- Bringing 3 finished piece to our office, or
- Sending photos to our DMs or [email protected] with:
- a top angle to show the design
- a side angle to show how flat the beadwork is

Deadline to submit beadwork samples: May 29th, 2026

Final medallions due: June 19th, 2026

Your art carries story, culture, and connection. We honor the work of Native artists and the traditions carried through beadwork.

Join us on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026 from 4:30 PM–8 PM for our Iditarod Dog Blanket Workshop! Native youth ages 13–19 are invited to create a traditional dog blanket for their pets while learning about culture, tradition, and our sacred relationship with animals. Sign up quick! We only have 15 spots available! Parents are also welcome to attend. Also, we'd like to thank Canine Partners of the Rockies for collaborating with us. They will have facility dogs in training present at the workshop, get some dog medicine from them!

The Iditarod is an annual long-distance sled dog race held in Alaska each March. The word “Iditarod” comes from the Deg Xinag and Holikachuk languages of the Athabascan peoples of Interior Alaska, meaning “distant place.” The history of the Iditarod extends far beyond the modern race and reflects generations of Alaska Native and Indigenous traditions.

For many Native peoples, animals are sacred relatives, and our connection with them carries deep meaning. In many Alaska Native traditions, sled dogs are honored with great pride, care, and respect. These relationships teach responsibility, compassion, trust, and connection.

Through this workshop, youth will learn about the cultural significance of these traditions while exploring healthy coping skills rooted in culture, creativity, and relationships with animals. We hope participants leave feeling connected, empowered, and inspired by the teachings shared.
