Meet Angela Trujillo, IIK’s Accountant.

Angela’s family roots are in Spain and New Mexico, and she carries them forward through her kitchen and a crochet hook. Crocheting was passed down from her grandmother and mother, and she plans to pass it on to her daughters.

Meet Iesha Mitchell, IIK’s Vice President of Program Strategy and Impact.

With deep roots in Northern New Mexico, Iesha’s message for Hispanic Heritage Month is simple: “Take the time to learn about the diversity of the diaspora; it is beautiful and rich and far reaching with so many roots in so many places from across the world.”

When we asked why representation matters in early childhood and family support work, she said it “brings lived experiences into the conversation” and reminds us to lead with cultural humility, curiosity, and a willingness to truly listen.

For Hispanic Heritage Month, we're spotlighting the voices on our team who make our work possible.

Our Program Consultant for the ELFE team, Lizzeth has been part of the IIK family for 11 years, working to make sure our programs reach Latino/e communities across Colorado. Her family roots trace back to Chihuahua, Mexico, and that connection shows up every day in her work.

"When I sit in classrooms with young children, talking, laughing, and playing in Spanish, I'm helping them grow their imagination without barriers and feel like a true part of their classroom."

And if you ask Lizzeth what she hopes you take with you this month, it's this: "We belong in all spaces, because we matter."

As the new school year begins, the Early Learning and Family Education (ELFE) team at Invest in Kids is excited to share an updated Incredible Years® Dinosaur School Curriculum with teachers at implementing partner organizations across Colorado.

This was a year-long initiative completed in partnership with Empower Community Care, provider of IY reviewed, streamlined, and adapted the Preschool and Kindergarten curriculum to reflect current, culturally responsive, and developmentally appropriate practices, all while staying true to the program's core model.

Highlights of the update include:
🦕 Reorganized structure with separate Preschool & Kindergarten binders
🦕 Simplified, flexible lessons teachers can tailor to their classroom
🦕 Updated large and small group lessons based on current best practices
🦕 Expanded prevention strategies to support self-regulation and social-emotional growth
🦕 Updated bilingual Spanish visuals for diverse learners and families
🦕 An enhanced school-home connection guide to strengthen family engagement

Invest in Kids will provide training, coaching, and implementation support throughout the rollout this year. We can't wait to see the positive impact in classrooms across Colorado!

9 months. Dozens of leaders. One shared mission: reimagining early childhood systems across Colorado. 🏔️

Our Nurse Consultant at IIK, Alex Carmitchel, was selected earlier this year to join this program, which brings together leaders committed to strengthening and reimagining early childhood systems across Colorado.

Her recent retreat in Granby included conversations on policy and advocacy, community engagement, storytelling, and strengthening data and evaluation systems which are all in service of better outcomes for kids and families statewide!

Welcome to the Team, Erin Albrecht! 🎉

We're thrilled to welcome Erin Albrecht as our new Director of Data Quality and Evaluation!

Erin previously worked at Invest in Kids as the Data and Evaluation Manager for Early Learning and Family Education. For the past decade, she has led and supported evaluations of prevention programming for Colorado children and families, with a passion for supporting the meaningful use of data and evidence to improve practice and strengthen impact.

One of her favorite aspects of this work is supporting the meaningful use of different types of data and evidence to improve practice and strengthen impact.

Outside of work, you can find Erin practicing yoga, spending time with her two rescue dogs Luna and Oscar, or reading a good book. She's also an avid Green Bay Packers fan and true crime podcast enthusiast.
