The National Association of School Psychologists has issued a statement and two handouts emphasizing the important role that adults play in helping children and youth process this tragedy and in establishing a sense of safety. The statement includes a variety of tips for adults to aid children in understanding both the events and the importance of treating all people with dignity and not judging entire groups of people for the actions of a few.

The 2015 CSSP Mental Health Summer Institute 2015 will be held at the University of Colorado Denver EdU Center in downtown Denver on Friday July 24.
Aaron Wiemeier M.S. LPC will be this year's speaker and will present the following sessions:

"Brain Development & Trauma"

"The Fearless Practitioner: Creative Insights & Strategies for Helping the Most Violent, Oppositional, and Avoidant Child and Adolescent Clients".

Attendees will have the opportunity to earn 6 hours of NASP Approved CEUs OR 7 hours of Adams State University credit (additional fee applies).

A Distance Learning alternative at the Montrose School District Central Office will be offered for individuals on the Western Slope.

Our thoughts go out today to all families and friends of Columbine. As school psychologists we are reminded of the necessity of our roles in the schools.. Take care of each other and build a community to stand up to bullying, harassment and violence through love and education. And as quoted below by Principal DeAngelis...

Congratulations to Franci Crepeau-Hobson, Ph.D., Kathy Sievering, M.A., Julie Stonis, Ed.S, & Char Armstrong, Ed.S. who have co-authored a paper that has recently been published in the Journal of School Violence, “A Coordinated Mental Health Crisis Response: Lessons Learned From Three Colorado School Shootings”. Franci and her colleagues presented their paper for the first time at the National Association of School Psychologists Conference in Seattle, WA this week! With approximately 85 attendees their workshop was a great success. Stay tuned for more information on their presentation and article!
