Ozone season is here in Colorado, and on high-ozone days, the air our kids breathe can actually hurt their lungs.

Here's what to know: ozone pollution peaks on hot, sunny afternoons. So on "Orange" or "Red" air quality days, we limit outdoor play in the afternoon, keep windows closed during peak hours, and check the air before we head out.

Two free tools we love:

πŸ”΅ AirNow (airnow.gov or the free app), the go-to for official air quality levels by zip code

πŸ”΅ IQAir (iqair.com or app), real-time readings from monitors near you
Protecting our kids starts with knowing what's in the air. Check before you play. πŸ’™

Did you know Colorado has observed Public Lands Day every third Saturday of May since 2016? πŸ”οΈ We're the first state to do it, because we know what's at stake.

Here's why it matters more than ever:

🌿 Colorado has 22+ million acres of publicly owned land, places where families hunt, fish, hike, camp, ski, and simply belong.

πŸ’° Outdoor recreation contributes $13.9 billion to Colorado's economy annually and supports 130,000 jobs. 92% of Coloradans participate every year.

⚠️ This year's celebration came with a warning. The Trump administration recently rolled back the BLM's Public Lands Rule, weakening conservation protections. Congressional Republicans are targeting Grand Staircase-Escalante. And the man now in charge of the BLM has spent his career backing efforts to sell off federal lands.

βœ… The good news: Senator Bennet just introduced the Public Lands Integrity Act to prevent public lands from ever being quietly sold through a budget bill. Rep. Hurd now has a chance to prove his support is more than words by backing the companion bill.

Public lands aren't a partisan issue. They're our shared inheritance. And they deserve more than one Saturday a year. They deserve protection. πŸ’š

Colorado Mamas fought hard this session for clean air, utility accountability & affordable energy, and we're just getting started.

Huge thanks to Senator Cathy Kipp and Representative Kyle Brown for standing up to big tech to protect our families. πŸ™Œ

Next session, we're coming back to finish what we started. Join us and keep the momentum going! πŸ‘‡ Link in profile!

Big win for our kids, and for us!!

4,012 acres of western Colorado just got protected. The Escalante Ranch is now part of the Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area, south of Grand Junction.

That means our families can hike, raft, and watch wildlife on land that was once closed off. The ranch has 7 miles of the Gunnison River and 8 miles of Escalante Creek. Bighorn sheep, golden eagles, elk, and black bears all live here.

Best part? It opens up tens of thousands of acres for our kids to explore.

This win was paid for by the Land and Water Conservation Fund, the program that protects public lands for the next generation. Mamas, this is why we fight. πŸ’ͺ

The mountains our kids climb. The rivers they swim in. The trails where they take their first steps into the wild. The neighborhood parks and playgrounds.

These places didn't protect themselves. For 60 years, the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) has been the tool that creates them and keeps them ours, using revenue from offshore oil and gas leases (not your tax dollars) to protect national parks, forests, and the outdoor spaces families depend on.

And right now, the Trump administration wants to gut it by 90%.

At the same time, they just confirmed Steve Pearce, a man who literally went on record saying "we do not even need" public lands, to run the Bureau of Land Management, the agency that oversees nearly 250 million acres of our shared land.

Here's what the polls say: 74% of Americans support investing in our public lands and national park infrastructure. This isn't a partisan issue. This is a mom issue. A family issue. A what-kind-of-world-are-we-leaving-our-kids issue.

Colorado's outdoor economy supports 1 in 8 jobs and generates billions for our state. Public lands aren't just beautiful, they're part of how families put food on the table.

We beat back the land sell-off last year. We can do it again.

Tell your lawmakers: fully fund the LWCF. Our kids are watching.

Yesterday, the US Senate voted to confirm Steve Pearce as the Director of the Bureau of Land Management. Pearce is a disaster for public lands. His record is packed with attacks on protections for the places Colorado families hike, camp and fish, including support for selling off public lands to the highest bidder. Colorado deserves better. Thank you Senator Michael Bennet and Senator John Hickenlooper for voting against Pearce and standing with Colorado families, public lands and future generations.

250 million acres. That's what we just lost.

The Trump Administration just repealed the Public Lands Rule, stripping conservation, Tribal voices, and wildlife protections from the lands our families hike, camp, explore, hunt, fish, and breathe on.

This rule had overwhelming support across the country, across political views, across cultures. When the administration tried to repeal it, 98% of commenters said keep it.

They ended it anyway. For billionaires and corporate polluters who want to drill, mine, and bulldoze the places we love.

We won't stop our work defending these places, and we need your voices to join with us! πŸ”οΈ

Did you know Colorado just got some really good news on air quality? πŸŽ‰

The American Lung Association's brand-new State of the Air report found that Colorado was one of only FIVE states where particle pollution improved in every county measured. Cities across our state, from the Western Slope to the Front Range to the Arkansas Valley, are moving in the right direction.

That's worth celebrating, Moms! Clean air wins are kids' health wins. πŸŒ¬οΈπŸ’š
But we're not done yet.

Denver still ranks as the 8th most polluted city in the nation for ozone, and nearly half of all American kids live somewhere with failing air quality grades. Our kids in the Denver metro deserve the same clean air wins that the rest of the state is seeing.

The path forward is clear: more clean energy, less fossil fuels. Every step away from dirty energy is a step toward the kind of air our kids were meant to breathe.

Let's keep going, Colorado. πŸ’ͺ

Western Slope mamas, this one's for you. πŸ”οΈ

We're hosting our first-ever Western Slope Kick-Off THIS Friday, May 15th, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Orchard Mesa Lions Club Veterans Park in Grand Junction.

Come play, snack, and celebrate the public lands our kids are growing up on.

This park exists because of the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Knowing places in our backyard are funded by this program helps us care enough to fight to keep the LWCF funded and protected.

Free. Family-friendly. All are welcome.

We're also collecting outdoor gear for kids through our friends at Friends of Youth and Nature. New or gently used jackets, hats, mittens, warm socks, and all other youth and adult-sized outdoor gear welcome.

RSVP at the link in bio. See you there. 🌿
