📚 Reading at the end of preschool isn’t about “getting it right” - it’s about building confidence and love for books.
As children prepare for kindergarten, here are a few simple ways to support them at home:
✨ Keep reading aloud together every day (even if they’re starting to recognize words)
💬 Talk about the story: what’s happening, what might come next, how characters feel
🔤 Play with sounds and rhymes in everyday moments (“cat, hat, bat…”)
📖 Ask them to tell the story back in their own words (it won’t be perfect, and that’s okay)
🚗 Point out words in the world around you: signs, menus, labels
🧸 Let them pick the books they love and reread them as much as they want
At this stage, it’s less about skill and more about connection - feeling that books are fun, familiar, and something they can do.
