This is a fascinating look at the UK.

Amazing DNA study shows modern Britons still live in same tribal kingdoms as their ancestors in 600 AD. New maps show Celt, Roman, Anglo-Saxon and Viking territories in British Isles.

We have another spotlight on one of our family history center volunteers, Stormy, who works at the center regularly on Sunday evenings. She is a member of the City Park Ward which meets downtown at the Grant Street Building. Stormy comes to the stake center on Sunday evenings to volunteer.

She is enjoying being a help to those who come to our center, She said, "I've always been curious about who came before me. I wanted to know about my mother's and father's sides of our family. Now that I've become a family history consultant I get to do my own family history and help other with theirs, which is really exciting!"

Thanks, Stormy, for volunteering!

A Newspaper Success Story

By Joy Young

I have a descendency list from Hope Chest I have been working through, one name at a time, and there was a woman whose only name was "Fleety" on the list. I wanted to figure out who she was, so I started searching various sources to find her. She was married to William Christian and her marriage record said that her parents were James Patterson and Nancy Jane Allen. That gave me her maiden name, Patterson, so I searched for her and found her in the 1900 census with a stepfather named George Bodley. His wife's name was Anna Bodley. I assumed this was Fleeta's mother, but how do you get from Nancy Jane Allen to Anna Bodley?
I could not tell.
Then, I wondered if there were clues in the newspapers from that time period. I had taken Leanna Geist's class on newspapers and so I decided to check them out on Ancestry.
I found a record "Historical Newspapers, Birth, Marriage and Death announcements 1851-2003," and I discovered a death notice for Annie Bodley. In a short paragraph it said that Annie's brother was Thomas J. Allen. Hurray! Now I know that Annie is Nancy Jane Allen, and Fleeta's mother. Thank-you, Leanna, for that helpful class.
