COME CELEBRATE HALLIE!!!

For the past four years, Hallie has poured her heart into building a Council that is community-led and grounded in principles of equity and justice. Her leadership has strengthened relationships across our local food system and helped shape more connected, collaborative work throughout Jefferson County.

From supporting cultural recipes in school food pilots, to organizing collaborative fundraisers for food pantries, to helping navigate the complex realities of food insecurity, Hallie’s impact will continue to ripple through this community for years to come.

As she steps into her next adventure, she leaves us with stronger partnerships, inspiration, and hope for the future.

Join us for a Food Justice Happy Hour to celebrate Hallie on her last day as Executive Director of the Jefferson County Food Policy Council!

Volunteers are the backbone of our food system and they deserve clarity, respect, and care. Showing up for your community shouldn’t come at the cost of being valued, and strong systems start with how we treat people.

Our Volunteer Bill of Rights centers the voices of those doing the work, setting a shared standard for dignity, communication, and community across food banks and pantries.

Big thanks to our Community Leadership team consisting of local community members who led and created this important project!

Black leadership is not just history- it’s the foundation of what we now call food justice, living in the present and shaping the future.

As February comes to a close, we honor the growers, organizers, chefs, educators, advocates, parents, and visionaries whose labor, knowledge, and resistance have shaped our food systems long before recognition was ever offered. Black food leaders have always been at the forefront of land stewardship, food justice, community care, and collective liberation.

Recognition matters, but recognition without repair is incomplete. Equity without action is performative. Justice cannot be seasonal.

Our commitment is to move beyond celebration and into practice: supporting Black leadership, advancing reparations, redistributing resources, and building food systems rooted in dignity and sovereignty every single day of the year.

This is a love letter, and also a promise to keep showing up, listening, investing, and doing the work long after February ends. We encourage all of those working within and towards a thriving food future to participate year-round.

Across the U.S. communities are rising up in response to federal immigration enforcement and violence, including historic general strike actions and economic blackouts led by unions, faith groups, students, and businesses calling for an end to ICE operations and accountability for harm. Tens of thousands marched and hundreds of businesses closed in solidarity with the ICE‑Out general strike in Minnesota recently.

We invite other organizations and businesses to stand with us- join the nationwide call for a general strike, solidarity closures, and local actions to defend immigrant communities and demand justice.

Community and care are stronger than fear. ✊🏽
