Reputable breeders waiting lists are completely full right now. There is an unprecedented number of requests for puppies. We are fielding between 20 and 30 a day. If you truly want a healthy puppy from a good breeder please be patient.
Once a breeding happens it is 63 days until the puppies are born and 8 weeks until they are ready to come home. Females heat cycles vary between 6-14 months. Sometimes you have to wait other times breeders have a puppy available right away. The key to getting a puppy from a reputable breeder is patience.
Both parents at minimum should have have passing scores on Hips and Elbows from the OFA.
Heart exams auscultation and/or Echo are done by a veterinary cardiologist.
Eyes should be done every year by a veterinary ophthalmologist. Genetic testing such as prcd-PRA, GR-PRA1, GR-PRA2, Ichthyosis, & NCL may also be performed but are not a requirement.
Every breeder should be knowledgeable about these tests and provide links or copies of the tests for OFA. Hips and elbows will ALWAYS be listed on OFA. If they are not there they do not exist.
Some breeders send in Eyes and Heart exams some do not, but they should be able to provide you with copies of the passing clearance.
OFA does not certify dogs!!! They only present dogs with passing hip and elbows with certificates. Passing grades are Excellent, Good, and Fair. Elbows are passing or failing only. OFA automatically puts passing grades on their website within a month of the films being read.
Please be patient with breeders there has been an overwhelming request for reputably bred puppies. You may not hear back from them for several weeks. They are trying to keep up with replies.
