Centura Global Health Initiatives (GHI)

We are a short-term medical mission program that sends volunteers to remote locations to provide no-cost medical and health services to people in need.

After nearly three years without being able to send clinical teams to our GHI partner sites, it feels so good to receive updates like this from the Parker Adventist Hospital community health team lead, Bonnie Thomas, who is currently in Peru.

"This is our final day on the river. We've had a great week so far. Seeing lots of things to treat - yesterday we sent someone with a ruptured appendix to the hospital. We also treated a bad burn. This is a great group of volunteers who are a lot of fun. These photos reflect our clinic yesterday.... just another day in the office."

GHI is proud to partner with Angelia Clinic in Ukraine. Since the beginning of 2020, we have helped to support them in response to COVID, and now as they face the daily challenges associated with being a country at war.

Sanjeev Sah, chief information security officer at Centura, is in Nepal this week. Today he met with the administrators and the IT director at Scheer to discuss their IT issues and needs.

25 new hospital beds from Centura have cleared customs in Lima and are on their way to Iquitos!

Members of our team in Rwanda last week helped coordinate a Ponseti training at Rilima. This program teaches providers how to cast infants born with club foot so their limbs can grow into the correct position and the children can avoid surgery.

It wasn’t long ago that we shared this photo of Maria Kneusel being recognized by the National Association of Hispanic Nurses. Now we have learned that she was chosen to receive the Luminary Award from the Colorado Nurses Foundation! This award “acknowledges outstanding nurses who improve the health of others through advocacy, innovation and leadership.” Maria certainly fits the description. Congratulations, Maria! GHI is lucky to have you on our team.

It’s National Nurses Week! We couldn’t let the week pass by without thanking all of the amazing nurses who have given their time to GHI over the years. Our volunteer nurses represent the spirit of compassion and quality care that make the profession so respected. We appreciate you!!

Today is the International Day of the Midwife! Midwives play a critical role in our HBB and HMS programs that train birth attendants in life-saving strategies for both mother and baby. Here are some of our project managers working in Tanzania, Peru, and Rwanda at recent trainings.
