Environmental and Engineering Geophysical Society

Environmental and Engineering Geophysical Society The Environmental and Engineering Geophysical Society (EEGS) is an applied scientific organization founded in 1992.

EEGS is incorporated in the State of Colorado as a not-for-profit corporation with membership around the world. The society's primary activity is its annual meeting, SAGEEP. In addition, it develops and distributes a peer-reviewed scientific journal, JEEG, as well as a newsletter, FastTimes quarterly. It also publishes, markets, and distributes books and CD-ROMs on the application and use of geoph

ysical technologies. The annual meeting of the organization, known as the Symposium on the Application of Geophysics to Engineering and Environmental Problems (SAGEEP), is held in the late winter or early spring. Attendance over the last several years averages about 350. SAGEEP is internationally recognized as the leading conference on the practical application of shallow geophysics. It occurs over a 5-day period, with approximately 150 oral and poster presentations, several educational workshops, numerous vendor presentations, and a commercial exhibition. A set of proceedings, comprised of technical papers presented at the conference is distributed. SAGEEP pre-dates EEGS, and proceedings exist for every year starting with 1988. A peer-reviewed journal, Journal of Environmental and Engineering Geophysics (JEEG), is published quarterly and distributed via mail to the EEGS membership and academic libraries. Articles from recent issues (2005 forward) are available online to members of subscribing institutions through GeoScienceWorld (www.geoscienceworld.org). An electronic newsmagazine, FastTIMES, is also produced quarterly and is distributed via email and as a downloadable file through the society's web page. There are several student chapters in North America and around the world. In addition, EEGS maintains close ties with the near surface geophysics section (formerly EEGS-European Section) of the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers, the Near-Surface Technical Section of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, the Near-Surface Focus Group of the American Geophysical Union, and formal affiliated society agreements with several international professional societies.

The Environmental and Engineering Geophysics Society (EEGS) announces the availability of: FastTIMES Issue 27.4, Geohazards

This issue of FastTIMES showcases how near-surface geophysics directly serves communities and infrastructure. You’ll find a self-guided tour of active growth faults in Harris County that connects decades of mapping and geophysics to real-world impacts on homes and roads, a concise case study from Oroville Dam where GPR, refraction, and borehole logging supported urgent spillway safety decisions, and front-yard-scale investigations in Austin that link pavement distress to karst and subsurface complexity. Each contribution underscores our core strength, i.e., using practical, accessible methods to make invisible problems visible.

FastTIMES is an electronic newsmagazine for the near-surface geophysical sciences and has been published worldwide since 1998. FastTIMES is devoted to showcasing novel uses of near-surface geophysics in a manner that is intended to be interesting to geophysicists as well as accessible to others who may be interested in using geophysics. Outreach to other geoscience and engineering professionals is an important, evolving focus for this newsmagazine.

Giving Tuesday: Please Support EEGS… and Support the Future

In 1988, a group of geophysicists organized a meeting that would focus on near surface geophysics and named it the Symposium on the Application of Geophysics to Engineering and Environmental Problems (SAGEEP). Four years later, it was apparent an organization was needed to assure SAGEEP's longevity and to offer other resources. In 1992, the Environmental and Engineering Geophysical Society (EEGS) was formed and incorporated as a not for profit organization.
The geophysics community still needs SAGEEP and EEGS... and we need your support. Below is a request from EEGS leadership that we hope you will consider and then act on to ensure the future of our society and those who share an interest in studying the near subsurface through the application of geophysical techniques. Please click https://www.eegs.org/fundraiser-support-eegs to learn more and to donate. Thank you!
