Against a global backdrop of intertwined crises, capital flows to Latin America and the Caribbean are linked to the struggle among the major capitalist powers for control of strategic resources and global supply chains. In this context, Latin America and the Caribbean attracted $188 billion in 2025, a 14% increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, numerous Latin American countries are facing growing pressure in the context of arbitration over disputes. From Mexico to Argentina, governments have been sued by multinational corporations at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) over environmental measures, community rights, or regulations, and are facing claims in the hundreds of millions or billions. This situation poses systemic challenges for organizations and communities in the region who are confronting extractivist investments while simultaneously defending their territories and rights within an asymmetrical legal framework.

This webinar seeks to answer questions about how the investment protection system works, its impacts, and ways to exit the system. It also offers an opportunity to understand—through the voices of Latin American civil society organizations and academia—how the investment protection system has become a mechanism of dispossession and legal blackmail against our peoples.

Tenemos una responsabilidad de seguir hablando de las condiciones dentro de GEO !Si no hay justicia para el pueblo, que no haya paz para el gobierno!

F*** ICE. Eat Soup! with It´s friends in Cap Hill are putting on another fundraiser in their backyard. 🍜

Donate to enter and sample delicious soups, and donate a little more to take some home. All money donated will go to the Immigrant Freedom Fund to pay a bond and get someone OUT of ICE detention in Aurora.

Last year, the neighborhood showed up and together raised $7,000. Let’s do it again.

WHEN WE FIGHT, WE WIN!
We are thrilled to share that after a prolonged campaign, Arapahoe County District Attorney Amy Padden is doing the right thing and dropping all charges against the four Centennial Protesters! While anti-ICE and anti-imperialist sentiments are growing across our country, we have also seen an uptick in arrests of peaceful protesters. Let us be clear: this is intentional; but we will not be scared into silence!
Sadly, the Centennial Protesters are still facing federal charges so we are asking the community to continue to show up to demand that protesting is not a crime and that their charges be dropped! Join us on Thursday, October 8th at 8am to support Terry, Arnie, Yoselin, and El as they head to their next court date.

Today, Casa de Paz Colorado, AFSC & Coloradans For Immigrant Rights Not1More Deportation project and Shut Down GEO Aurora will host this week's vigil. Come prepared for an audiovisual experience - bring headphones or ear buds with you if possible! We will ground ourselves to bear witness to recordings of actual 911 calls from inside the facility this year and hear from immigrant leaders about why detention cannot be reformed.

Together, we resist and we remember. These vigils show us what community looks like as we support our detained neighbor .
