We are thrilled to welcome Thai Genty Boembi to Team TJP, as our newest Youth Care Coordinator! Thai has spent most of her professional career working in the social services realm. She segued into education in 2021 and became passionate quickly. It was a field that married her interests in youth work, direct service, and education itself.

Thai earned her Bachelor's in Political Science with a minor in Africana Studies from Howard University, working in various capacities throughout her collegiate journey, always centering service. Most recently she worked for Boston Public Schools as a Restorative Practices Safe and Welcoming Schools Specialist, and as a Program Manager for the Push-In Model, an ESSER funded pilot program launched with the intention of reimagining traditional school discipline through increasing adult capacity and offering alternatives to in school suspensions.

Thai has additional experience as Case Manager and Youth Engaged in Action (YEA!) Program Coordinator for Action for Boston's Community Development Inc, where in addition to case management, she completed outreach for the aforementioned YEA! program. She has also worked as a Domestic Violence Advocate with the Association of Haitian Women in Boston (Assosyasyon Fanm Ayisyen nan Boston).

Thai is excited to be working in Denver with TJP in this newest capacity.

Wow!! Last night we hosted our busiest Community Night yet.

Over 70 TJP youth, families& little ones filled our space to share a meal, make ice cream sundaes, catch up, and just be together. We ordered dinner from Dave’s Hot Chicken, and still had to order pizza to make sure everyone got a meal.

Tony’s Food Pantry was also busy! A huge thank you to our generous partners , .co , and for keeping our shelves stocked, and to everyone in our community who donates to fill the gaps.

As we grow, we’re looking for more partners to help keep our pantry stocked and stomachs full so we can keep community night thriving.

Please join us in welcoming our new bilingual clinical provider, Nohely Morales. Nohely is a licensed clinical social worker in the State of Colorado. She obtained her Master of Social Work from Metropolitan State University of Denver. Having grown up in a community and school system where access to support, guidance, and resources was limited, she understands the importance of having trusted adults and supportive communities to help young people navigate challenges and reach their goals. Her work is rooted in creating spaces where youth feel seen, heard, and supported.

In addition to clinical social work license, she is a Certified Addictions Specialist and Approved Domestic Violence Treatment Provider, with additional training in EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), reflecting her commitment to supporting the whole person and addressing the complex experiences that shape mental health and well-being. She believes that mental health is an important aspect of creating a balanced and meaningful life. She hopes to help break stigmas and stereotypes surrounding mental health, and believes that therapy is most useful when it recognizes how parts of identity interact with our social, cultural, and political environment.

She was raised in Oaxaca, Mexico as well as in Denver, Colorado, and enjoys visiting her family back home every year. She loves spending time with friends and family, as well as enjoying outdoor activities throughout Colorado.

We had a team lunch at to celebrate the first day of our two new staff, Nohely & Thai! Nohely is joining us as a bilingual clinical provider who will provide therapy to TJP youth and Thai is our newest youth care coordinator, supporting our young people with resource navigation and more. Stay tuned to learn more about these two awesome humans, and please join us in welcoming them to Team TJP!

Yesterday, we shared the framework of transformative justice with you: it's looking beyond punishment to ask what's actually causing harm, and then working to address it. It examines racism, poverty, trauma and other systemic barriers as the issues that lead to youth involvement in our criminal legal system; issues a punishment cannot heal. It is holistic, beautiful, challenging work, and it's the kind of work that needs board leadership to match.

This is a working Board, and we need people who bring both their hustle and their heart. Passion for our mission matters, but so does capacity to help us grow our organization: Can you connect us to your networks? Can you help us bring money in to support our staff and our youth alike? If this work calls to you, we invite you to apply to join our growing Board of Directors.

We're also looking for our next Board Co-Chair: someone with real board or leadership experience (fundraising experience is a bonus), a strong leader who delegates well and brings people along, and who wants to partner directly with our Co-Executive Directors to help TJP grow toward our 2027 goals.

Time commitment: roughly 5 hours a month, covering board and committee meetings, with some increase around our annual event.

We would like you to meet our undergraduate intern, Elliana White!

Ellie is originally from Boulder, Colorado. She is an undergraduate at Northwestern University studying Legal Studies and Communications. Ellie is interested in public policy that impacts young people most at risk of having contact with the justice system -- and joined Transformative Justice Project to further their work in pushing towards a reformed system rooted in racially just, developmentally appropriate, and strengths-focused policies. She is especially interested in the prevention end of the continuum, though is always eager to learn more about intervention, detention, and the legal system. She has served on the Emerging Leaders Committee of Colorado’s Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Council and has conducted research on undiagnosed and unaddressed learning differences as a contributor to the pipeline. Ellie hopes to spread awareness about the school-to-prison pipeline and the role that schools can play in fueling the disproportionate mass incarceration of black and brown kids in the justice system. Ellie joined in hopes to provide a student voice and advocate for youth in Colorado. In her free time, Ellie enjoys playing tennis, playing with Sweet Coconut Bernard (her cat), and watching Modern Family.

Although we weren't able to introduce her here while she was with us, we don't want the summer to end without celebrating Sophie Link, who recently wrapped up a summer internship with the Transformative Justice Project of Colorado!

Sophie Link grew up in the Denver area and recently graduated summa cm laude from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with degrees in Public Affairs and the Study of Religion. Throughout college, she worked in criminal defense, juvenile justice, and criminal justice research, including projects with Loyola Law School’s Center for Juvenile Law & Policy, the UCLA Social Justice Research Partnership, and a Colorado criminal defense firm. At TJP, Sophie helped develop accessible resources for youth and families navigating the juvenile legal system and she was instrumental in upgrading our LYRIC curriculum to include modules on digital privacy and probation rights. She is passionate about advancing fairness and opportunity for young people impacted by the justice system in Colorado, where she hopes to return after completing her J.D. This fall, Sophie will begin her legal studies at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law.

We're grateful for the work Sophie contributed to TJP and for the resources she leaves behind that will continue supporting youth and families.

Thank you, Sophie, and congratulations on everything ahead! We can't wait to see where your legal education and commitment to justice take you.
