Happy Pride Month! 🌈

This month, we want to celebrate and recognize the strength and resilience of the LGBTQIA2S+ youth in our community and across the country. We also want to recognize an important reality: according to the National Foster Youth Institute, over 30% of young people in foster care identify as LGBTQIA2S+, compared to about 11% of young people nationally.

These youth are also more likely to have higher rates of placement disruption. One study found that 78% of LGBTQIA2S+ youth were removed or ran away due to a caregiver's hostility toward their sexual orientation or gender identity. These statistics highlight how essential it is that the young people we serve feel safe, supported, and truly understood.

At Child Advocates - Denver CASA, we are committed to ensuring every youth in the child welfare system has a CASA Volunteer who listens, affirms who they are, and advocates for their needs. We also continue to connect youth with trusted, affirming resources throughout our community of support.

This Pride Month and every month, we stand with LGBTQIA2S+ youth. Denver CASA will always work toward a future where every young person feels seen, valued, and safe. 🩷🧡💛💚💙💜

🎉 Happy 1-Year Anniversary! 🎉

Today we’re celebrating one incredible year with Sabrina Angel, our Development Associate!

Sabrina's contributions across donor relations, development, marketing, and events are essential to how our organization connects with and engages our community.

We are grateful for her commitment, versatility, and the consistency she brings to her work. And when she’s not in the office, you’ll likely find her out on a mountain somewhere with her fluffy dog, recharging for the important work ahead. 🐾⛰️

Help us thank Sabrina for one year of dedication and impact! 💙

💙 Volunteer of the Month Spotlight: Brittney VanCuran 💙

We’re proud to celebrate Brittney, whose compassion and dedication are making a real difference in the life of a kiddo in the welfare system. As a CASA, she’s built strong, trusting relationships with both her CASA kiddo and their kin placement, helping connect them to important resources and support.

From exploring Denver to creating imaginative adventures at the Botanic Garden, Brittney shows how small moments of joy matter. Brittney shared that she values the unique, independent role CASA Volunteers play and is proud to be “one villager” in a network of support surrounding children and families.

👏 Help us congratulate Brittney in the comments!

What happens when you send our Denver CASA team on a scavenger hunt around the city?

A lot of laughter, a little friendly competition, and a great reminder that giving ourselves permission to be a little more playful and a lot more relaxed helps us return to this work feeling refreshed, focused, and grounded.

This is an example of something we often remind our CASAs: taking time for yourself really matters.

When we step outside of our daily office routines and learn new ways of working together, we strengthen our connections as a team, which ultimately helps us better support kids in Denver with a CASA Volunteer.

Thank you Ticket to Dream Foundation and for bringing creativity and joy to kids with a CASA Volunteer through these fun LEGO sets! 🧡💙

Moments of play like this help build confidence, inspire imagination, and give kids space to dream big. We’re grateful for partners who make these meaningful experiences possible!

May is National Foster Care Month💙

As of 2025, more than 325,000 children in the U.S. are in dependency court or foster care due to abuse or neglect. This May, we recognize the foster parents, kinship caregivers, families, professionals, and community advocates who help create safe, stable homes for these youth.

Children in foster care often face constant upheaval, potentially moving homes and placements multiple times in their lives. A CASA Volunteer can be a steady supporter during times of instability. At Denver CASA, our CASAs advocate for over 280 children and youth, building lasting connections and helping them access the resources they need to thrive.

You can help our CASA Volunteers create brighter futures for children in foster care.
