Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is once again under attack.

This treasured landscape spans 1.9 million acres in southern Utah and holds deep ecological, cultural, and public value. Now, members of Congress have introduced a resolution that would strip its protections, putting this monument, and others across the country, at risk.

An attack on Grand Staircase-Escalante could open the door to similar attacks on national monuments nationwide.

Rocky Mountain Wild stands with our friends at Earthjustice and San Juan Citizens Alliance in working to protect this remarkable place. Take action today and send a letter to your representatives through this week’s action page: rockymountainwild.org/weeklyactions

Rocky Mountain Wild applauds the Senate Transportation & Energy Committee for passing SB141, the Wildlife Collision Prevention Act, sponsored by and . This bipartisan bill reflects the kind of practical, science-informed action Colorado needs to reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions, save lives, lower costs, and keep wildlife moving safely across the landscapes they depend on.

Big news: the Colorado Pika Project has received the 2026 Community Science Award from Rocky Mountain National Park.

We’re proud to share this recognition alongside our partners at Denver Zoo and deeply grateful to the volunteers who helped make it possible.

The Colorado Pika Project monitors the American pika, a climate-sensitive alpine species, and helps build the long-term data needed to better understand how mountain ecosystems are changing. It’s a powerful example of conservation rooted in science, partnership, and community.

This award is a celebration of everyone who has hiked, surveyed, documented, and shown up for this work over the years.

Thank you to all of our volunteers, and congratulations to everyone who has helped shape the Colorado Pika Project.

Rocky Mountain Wild appreciates The Wilderness Society’s new report highlighting some of the public lands most threatened by efforts to sell them off or open them to harmful development. While we did not contribute directly to this report, our team has worked closely with TWS to oppose damaging oil and gas leasing and development, and we are grateful for their work to elevate these issues. Public lands are not for sale.https://www.wilderness.org/sites/default/files/media/file/not%20for%20sale%20report%20digital.pdf

Dr. Barbara Vasquez raised an urgent concern about this Administration’s plans to lower federal bonding requirements for oil and gas leasing on , shifting cleanup costs for orphan wells onto taxpayers. At Rocky Mountain Wild, we see this as part of a broader effort to weaken safeguards that protect wildlife, habitat connectivity, and the wild lands communities care about.

Using the Congressional Review Act to undo local management plans would set a dangerous precedent for public lands management. Email your legislators today!

Dear Senator/Rep [Last Name],
As your constituent, I urge you to oppose any efforts to use the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to overturn Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Resource Management Plans (RMPs). Reversing these plans through the CRA undermines the entire integrity in how we manage public lands.
Specifically, I’m concerned about S.J.Res. 61 (Miles City, Montana), S.J.Res. 62 (North Dakota), and S.J.Res. 63 (Central Yukon, Alaska). These resolutions would undo thoughtfully crafted RMPs that provide long-term guidance for managing millions of acres of public land, balancing diverse uses such as energy development, grazing, conservation, and recreation.
If passed, these CRA resolutions would:
1.) Discard extensive public input, especially from those who know the most about these landscapes.
2.) Create legal and economic instability, potentially unraveling permits, leases, and authorizations issued under the current plans, and forbidding similar management approaches in these areas permanently.
3.) Negatively impact future planning efforts, discourage future public engagement and weaken the BLMs ability to adopt smart, science-based land management strategies.
I strongly urge you to oppose S.J.Res. 61, 62, and 63, as well as the broader use of the CRA to nullify long-standing, collaborative public land planning processes.

Sincerely,
[first and last name]
