A few months ago, we shared exciting news: two community groups we partner with had raised their half of the funding for a sustainability project. Both chose to launch tent and chair rental businesses to generate ongoing income for the care of orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC).

In May, Nehemiah’s Restoration invested the remaining 50%, and both groups purchased their equipment.

Today, both businesses are up and running.

Tents are being rented. Chairs are being delivered. And these communities are now generating income of their own to help provide ongoing care for vulnerable children. Check the video below to see one of the groups erecting their tent!

But this is about much more than tents and chairs.

We're Building Capacity, Not Dependency

We asked each group to develop a business plan, requiring them to think through their market, pricing, expenses, operations, and long-term sustainability. We have also provided business and leadership training to help them make wise decisions, manage their businesses, and lead their organizations effectively.

Because sustainability isn't just about providing capital.

It's about giving people the knowledge and skills to make that investment succeed.

And here's why that matters most:

Long after our formal partnership ends, these businesses can continue generating revenue that goes directly toward supporting orphaned and vulnerable children in their communities.

While we were in Western Kenya last month, we also had some very exciting meetings with two Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) that we hope to partner with soon — and we couldn't be more hopeful about what this means for the children we serve.

This is a new direction for Nehemiah's Restoration, and a thoughtful one. Because these groups are formally registered CBOs, they already have the organizational infrastructure and administrative capacity to make our partnership model work at its best.

Our meetings went beautifully — we shared our model, dreamed together about what collaboration could look like, and are now moving into the next stage of developing their project budgets. We believe this approach will make our impact even more sustainable for Orphan and Vulnerable Children in the region.

Big news from Western Kenya! 🎉 Last month, our Founder Rob Bollinger visited the field and witnessed a milestone we've been working toward together — our two partner Community Groups officially purchased their sustainability projects!

Our model asks groups to raise 50% of the funds themselves before we match. It's a big ask — and they delivered.

The Madungu Group purchased a 100-seat event tent and 100 chairs, and have already hired two young men from their own community with hands-on tent assembly experience. Local knowledge, local employment, local ownership.

The Lur Group purchased a 100-seat event tent, 100 chairs, and a smaller gazebo tent. They've also formed a smart referral partnership with the craftsman who made their tent — when he's booked, he sends clients their way, and vice versa. They're hitting the ground running!

This is what community-led development looks like — and it's only possible because of the generosity of supporters like you. 🙏

We’re thrilled to share highlights from our January field visit with our Founder and President, Rob Bollinger. Seeing the impact up close reignited our passion—and reminded us how vital your support truly is.

We proudly completed Year One with our two partner Community Groups assisting Orphan and Vulnerable Children in Western Kenya! Throughout 2025, both made strong progress toward savings for their sustainability projects—key steps toward long-term independence. Together, we celebrated wins, refined lessons learned, and enthusiastically renewed our partnerships for Year Two, formalizing them with signed Memorandums of Understanding.

Because of your generosity, we were able to support nearly 200 children with essential food, school uniforms and supplies, and safe shelter—meeting urgent needs while strengthening pathways for a more stable future!

We’re planting seeds for the future, too. During the trip, we met with three established Community-Based Organizations as we prepare our next cohort—opening doors to expand our reach and deepen impact where it’s needed most.

As we look back on 2025, our hearts are full of gratitude—and excitement for what’s ahead. Because of your generosity and partnership, this year brought powerful growth, deeper relationships, and tangible progress for orphaned and vulnerable children in Western Kenya. You are not just supporters of this work; you are an essential part of every life changed and every community strengthened. This year alone, you helped support more than 165 orphaned and vulnerable children, walked alongside 67 families, trained over 35 volunteers, and launched partnerships with two new Community Groups that are already well on their way toward long-term sustainability.

One of the year’s most exciting milestones was the expansion of our Community Group project, including new partnerships with the Lur and Madungu Community Groups. Together, we established strong reporting systems and shared partnership practices, laying critical groundwork for community-led solutions that will continue well beyond immediate needs. This is how sustainable change takes root—and it’s happening because of you.

The impact is already visible. Within the Lur Community Group, families are experiencing improved food security, with one child joyfully sharing that there is now “enough food to feed all of us, even our friends.” Girls who once missed school during their menstrual cycles are now attending consistently thanks to access to sanitary pads—restoring dignity, education, and opportunity. Even more inspiring, Lur demonstrated remarkable leadership by raising 95% of their monthly financial goal in June to support children beyond our partnership, momentum that continues to grow month by month.

Meanwhile, the Madungu Community Group is forging a hopeful path toward self-reliance through their Legacy Project. With initial support, they secured farmland, completed two successful planting seasons, and nearly fully funded their Sustainability Project through their first harvest alone—an amount we will match to help ensure lasting income generation after our partnership concludes. We are also thrilled to share that new funding will allow us to welcome two additional Community Groups in the coming year, expanding the reach of this life-changing work even further.

A few days ago, we shared how access to sanitary napkins can keep a girl in school.

One girl in our partner Community Groups usually missed multiple days each month. Falling behind in class, feeling embarrassed, and worried about her future were part of her routine. Last month, with support from our program, she stayed in school for her entire period. For the first time, she felt safe, confident, and included.

While supplying pads has made a tremendous impact, our partner groups face a

recurring challenge: their monthly budgets simply can’t meet the needs of every

orphaned and vulnerable girl they serve.

As a result, only a small number of girls receive pads each month—leaving many without this basic support. When caregivers can’t afford sanitary pads, these girls inevitably miss school, falling further behind through no fault of their own. This cycle must end.

A few days ago, we shared the stories of girls in our partner Community Groups—girls who were missing school simply, because they didn’t have access to Sanitary Napkins.

Today, we want to share what your support truly means.

One of our Community Group leaders recently told us about a girl who usually misses three to five days of class every month. She would fall behind in her lessons, feel embarrassed returning to school, and worry that she’d never catch up.

But last month was different.

For the first time, she stayed in school for her entire cycle.

For the first time, she didn’t have to choose between her dignity and her education.

And when asked how she felt, she smiled and said, “I didn’t have to be afraid.”
